buying another thirdgen

Tommorow I am picking up a thirdgen.. it's an 88 Trans Am 305 TPI w/ a 700R4 (freshly rebuilt). I sold my other thirdgen (also a TPI T/A) and have my '93 now. I am converting my '93 to a race car from a driver and need a new driver, but anyway the steering wheel is loose, the guy says it was from when it was being pushed around the shop (he works at a performance shop) and some bearing is broken. It's still driveable, but the wheel is loose. I want to fix this ASAP.. I am very familiar with these cars, but have never done any work to the steering wheel or column so have no clue what is broken. I am guessing I need to pull the wheel, I will go pick up a steering wheel puller tommorow. Anyone know how to figure out what is wrong when I get it off? The problem is definately before the steering linkage, so it's in the column some where.

Thanks in advance

93 Turbocharged Trans Am WS6 Clone.. Turbotech kit, AFR Heads, nothing really stock anymore ..
Soon.. 88 T/A 305 TPI Bone Stock except for flowmaster catback
