VW Golf 1.8 GTI
VW Golf 1.8 GTI
Ok last night me and a buddy of mine both have 88 IROC-Z's both are 350's...well we pull up next to a Golf 1.8T. the light turns green and he takes off, so we get on it as well. After about an 1/8 of a mile he's got at least 2 carlengths on us. We slow down and give the guy a thumbs up cause he smoked us. I seriously didn't know how fast those things were
do u know what year was the golf...??
i knew 2.77 rear end sucked ...but this is ridiculous...
BTW what are u running in the 1/4 mile??
--------------
Engine Type - Gas I4
Engine Displacement - 1.8L/108.6
Fuel System - Turbocharged
SAE Net Horsepower - 150 @ 5700
SAE Net Torque (lb ft) - 155 @ 1750-4200
well those are numbers for a 2000 golf...1.8T
well if its a VR6 then the numbers are
VR6 6-cylinder, gasoline
Horsepower: 174 @ 5800, Maximum Torque: 181 @ 3200
in either case i dont see him beating you

I haven't run it at the track yet, i just got it 2 weeks ago. But he did do some mods to it...i know it wasn't completly stock but very "low-key" not riced out at all. I know for sure he upped the boost because he walked away from the start. im cool with getting beat by a turbo car, especially one thats not riced out and isn't a jerk. I just didn't know they had ***** like that
EDIT: oh yeah, it was a 2002 or a 2001 not sure

a 350 IROC with 2.77s should be in the mid-high 14 sec range. i dont think a stock Golf would run those times, let alone put 2 cars on you at the 1/8!!! it had to have been modded

I think they may have more mods commercially available out for the 1.8t, but yeah both get some good power. My mom drives a 2001 Jetta VR6 and that thing has some punch in its stock configuration.
I know with a chip and intake /downpipe / exhaust work they've been able to push around 245 hp at 14.5 psi on stock engine/turbo (my coworker did it in his jetta 1.8t). if the guy modded it that was prolly the extent of his mods .... besides rims and drop heheheh.

Yeah you have to watch out for those Jettas, there is one who races here in Kansas City and he is fast as hell!! I havent reced him but I have seen him race. The first time I saw him race was a phat camaro, who before the race lunged like 3 ft in the air!! It had some power. All I could think was damn this VW is gonna get spanked but they ran the 1/4 and the camaro lost by at least 4 car lengths!!! I have watched him race several times and there has never been a time where he lost or even only won by just one car lenth.
