Do IROCS look slow?

I've had my IROC-Z out for about three days now and every 3 to 4 hours someone in an F150 pickup, or a corsica, or a *****, or a 4th gen 6-banger wants to race. I give people rides in my IROC and the first question they have is "can you do a burney?" or what's under the hood, about a 3.1? THESE PEOPLE ARE DEAD SERIOUS!!! My car is in very good condition running or standing still, so are people just getting dumber or what? I'd like to believe I've proven myself in the past, and my car didn't get slower over winter. What's up with these people?

What kind of IROC do you have?

People these days, especially ricers don't care what you have, they'll race you.

There's always someone wanting to prove something nowadays. They have nothing to lose.

LOL! Let them say what they want to. What makes them better than you? I wouldn't even explain what I had if they don't know already.
Tell them this too: "I'd like to see the condition of YOUR car in 10-20 years too!" That's another thing. I doubt seriously that any of the new cars are built as well as ours are.

The only thing they can do is hash some remark about the times. And as their plastic cars fall apart, you can laugh at them!
They will always have an economy car to boot! Hahaha!
That makes me laugh more and more. No matter what they do, they still have an unattractive economy car!
Even the fast ones! The lightning fast ones! Oh man, I just don't know what to say, except that I would rather have a well built car driving down the freeway rather than one of those newer imports that are made mostly of plastic and cost a fortune to repair.

IROCs look sweet!!! Don't worry my friend in her supercharged Mustang gets races by ricers and SUVs all the time!! She even has a ProCharger windshield banner (for sponsorship)! It's not the car, it's the dumb people with no car knowledge!

I get it all the time. Every time i drive my Mustang i get someone rolling up asking "Is that a 5.0? wanna run it?" . I just nod my head no. I get it so much i hate it sometimes. In my area 5.0's are not that common. And since ever thug-racer in a ***** gets off on beating 5.0's, they all zero in on me.

Good to know people feel my pain. As for mark's question I have a 1990 IROC-Z with 305 TPI, and a w/c T-5 transmission (just rebuilt) my car is stock and stayin' that way. (worth more in the long run)

All I hear is "Do a Burnout" from everyone. Then they get mad when I don't. Are they gonna buy me new tires?

Anyways IROC's look fast IMHO. Everyone messes with me when I drive it

Not only do they look fast, they look great also. You just get those types of things when you drive 1.

I think they ask if it has a 3.1 becuase in today's ***** world a 3.1 is HUGE. I think people want to race because they think it looks fast and want to see what there car will do against it. Most people have never even been in a car that will do the 1/4 mile in less than 14.5 (not saying that is terribly slow but you know what i mean) and don't realize how slow their car is. As far as burnout's, thats prolly because it looks fast and they wanna see some smoke and know it can do it. When is the last time you saw a Civic doing a burnout with white smoke pouring from the front tires?

That one scene from T.F.A.T.F. when the one big dude that kept fighting sped away lit them up for a second.

I would get challenged in my dented, primer black, 1961 VW Bug by ricers (which they'd lose, the bug runs low 14's). That right there proves they'll rev at anything . Now I never got a rev from a domestic until I got the "pull-me-over" red 1990 Iroc tho. Says something about Mustang owners.

I don't think IROCs look slow at all. If anything they look like very powerful strong car which they are These people are probably people that have no idea about cars. And IROCthe5.7L I know what you mean about the burning out. I have a friend and everytime he is in the car he is always burn out, rev the engine, race this guy, and rev at the guy. I ask him well do you want to pay for the gas I waste when I rev and race or the tires that will need to be replaced after the burn outs? I will do it occasionally but not everytime we go cruising. I just can't afford it

I hear ya man! Some people are so annoying like that, and can't keep their hands off my car. Sometimes I take my other car because it gets on my nerves.

I take my car to my friends, got a fresh wax job on her. And people there cannot just look, always gotta be touching/poking at something, I dunno why though Like black paint dosent show smears

I open my door, keep it open for a bit, and my friend starts pushing down on it shaking the car. Now why in the living hell would you do something like that? Errr for the 455458495 time I had to be like uhhh stop.

The other kid is walking around my car knocking it with his knuckles, i'm like dude WTF ar you doin? "Uhh I dunno" Umm ok, so you just decided to go around knocking on my car? I know its not gonna damage it, but im sick and tired of people touching it, and me cleaning all the smear marks later.

Maybe Im wierd, is it normal to walk up to a persons car and start pushing down on an open door shaking the car? Or walking to a persons car you dont know, and start walking around knocking on it?

Sorry about the rant, had to get it out.

Yeah, if you don't know the person, why would they be touching your car, that's just really rude.

Yea thats the thing, there not even my friends! (Besides my friend who pushed the door, hes cool I said stop and he's like ok) I mean Id be at my friends house and people would come over I don't know and then they do that! Not even to be mean when I say what are you doing there just like "Uhh I dunno" Its not the same people, its always these people who I never met who wanna see my car.

I dunno what it is with this car, its not like its a friggin Z06 or anything.

I gotta stop being so nice about it, next time Im gonna say "Hands off or I cut your ***** off"

Sorry I dont wanna be a thread crapper, but it gets me so mad. Id never go up to anyones car, and start pushing **** and knocking it Respect is a good thing

Ok I'll shut up now

Haha in order for any thirdgen to get 11s w/o ripping the frame up is IMPOSSIBLE. ROFL, the 4th gen's are built nicely, similiar to the 1st gens. i LOVE 3rd gens and i hate to say this but, this era was a BAD era. I mean corvettes were pushing not much more than a 350 IROC-Z. 70s-80s werent performance years for cars, and anyone that sees IROC badging and asks if u have a 3.1 u might as well just put a roll of 100s down, cuz ur about to hand him his ***. always know the enemy, i know more about mustangs then i do camaros, 88-93 fox bodies atleast. so if anyone is stupid enough to tell me what they got before we run i can expect how bad of beating or how close its gonna be before we even race. thats funny, "got a 3.1??" i swear i woulda died laughing if i was there = P

Black cars should never be touched!

One of my friends seems to have trouble not scaring me when he is around my car... he comes over and I'll be tearin' out some interior piece and he sits in the seat I need to sit in and will insist that he can do what I need to do (while I still need to investigate what I need to do) or he'll fiddle with the tool I need to use... and won't hand it over... It's best when he has something to do with his car so I can get stuff done... I don't trust him near my car with anything harder than a tooth brush... but he makes good alcohol... and he's mostly harmless

It was funny though when he put muddy hand prints on it after the cat had left paw prints all over.

But to answer your question, I think the large hood gives the image of power and most people are either idiots or they want to see you go... Whenever I'm working on my car people drive by in cavaliers, hondas, vettes, trucks whatever... they always want to make lots of noise... whatever...

I gotta go take out the neighbors dog w/ paintball gun... the ****in thing is in our yard barking... wish me luck

I think the late 80's cars had great performance.

Yup, people just have to see/hear 1 of these cars and they think you are going fast. Even when you're not.

Wow, maybe its not so bad that my car is kinda quiet after all. I've had my GTA for just over a week now and nobody has challenged me to a race or revved at me or anything. Maybe I just cannot hear them (its loud inside not outside), or I am really good at ignoring them (so good I don't even notice!). The only person to ask for a burnout was another 3rd genner who had been helping me work on it. It could also be the fact that I am driving like an old man with this car, actually doing the speed limit, keeping good distances, not cutting people off, etc. Who knows, maybe the locals here know not to mess with me
