Dead even with a WS6 on the interstate
Coming down 64 this evening a black WS6 pulled up next to me. Amelia was in the car with me. Both of them were eyeing my car down so I knew what was about to happen. We were rolling along about 60 mph and I saw him downshift so I quickly did the same and we were both off. We ran door to door all the way up to about 95 or so (guesstimate, my speedo stops at 85) and neither one of us could pull an inch on the other. This happened again 2 more times before we both pulled off onto Broad St. At the first light we came to him and his buddy pulled up on my side of the car. It was one of the newer ones, black with ram air and the WS6 badge on the back.
Me: "Nice car"
Him: "Thanks! What do you have done to yours?"
Me: "Heads, cam, intake"
Him: "It sounds awesome, wanna go again?"
Me: "Sure."
So we wait there for a bit and right before the light turns green I see a cop coming from the other direction and try to point him out to the guys before they take off. They didn't see him until right in the middle of his launch. Luckily he eased off it in time to keep from attracting any attention and we went about our business and gave eachother a wave before they turned off.

When does the LS1's 3rd gear start and stop? Anyone know? I heard it will give you hell in a race.
But, I haven't had a problem with the 3rd gear terror. I'm sure the 4.10s help alot though.

Good Race!
It's jus something about a black WS6 that screams "FAST!". You're quite a lucky guy (compared to most) to be able to hang with one that long. I've never been able to pull on one anywher after 60 mph. Up till then it's all in the launch...but past....it's more fun to watch anyway right? Oh well. Beautiful Cars.

I was next to one at the track in my LT1. It was a 99 SS. I was only like a little more than a car behind him all the way down the strip and then when we hit 70 he just started taking off like a raped ape! It ended up being stock. I was like wow those things are highway terrors! That was my first race with an LS1.

I'm not used to anything being able to hang with me from a roll, but neither one of us could put an inch on the other one. That impressed the hell out of me. Out of all the new cars on the road, the ram air firebirds are the best looking thing out there. It's the most aggressive looking car ever made IMO. If I could afford a newer car and the isurance to boot, that would be my choice...if I could see over the dash.

Nice kill Nic..those LS1 cars suprise me anytime I see them run on the street. I watched a 00' SS dust a 01' LS1 vette by a good 5-6 cars and neither car was that modded. Just one had a better driver.
Nic, nothing can hang with you from a roll?
With a respectful 12.75 I find it hard that nothing can hang with you from a roll. Not trying to start anything but have you ever ran up to a LS1 Vette or Z06?

Did I say "nothing" can hang with me from a roll? Reread what I wrote, I said:
From a roll it's not ET that matters but mph and I've easily got the mph to run low 12's. Also, bear in mind, that 12.75 was with a 2800 stall converter. Now that I've got a 3500 stall converter in its place I'm expecting that time to come down a little bit further.
Yep, went from a 40 mph roll. I pulled on him, but he gave up way too soon. The WS6 I raced yesterday was stronger.

Nic,
Nice kill! LS1's love the highway. Mine doesnt start to shine until over 60 mph.
I hear you about the dash/windshield. It took a little getting used to, but now it feels wierd to drive other cars. Its strange to me to be able to see the front end of the car from the drivers seat.

what i don't like about 4th gen ttop cars is that i feel like i'm looking at the windshield header (i'm 6'2", nothing unreasonable). Maybe this is a reason why they don't sell well. don't get me wrong, i'd buy one if i could afford it.
LS1s are truly amazing and the LS6 is even better. I've driven both and flogged both, awesome for a stock motor.
