Olds rocket?

My boss came in today and said he picked up a '70 Olds Rocket with a 455 motor for 500 bucks... says it's all good except the ignition system is messed up. Anyhow, I was hoping for some pics and some technical info on the car (not sure on the cars year) like 1/4 mile times and Hp etc.

If I were to race this car I'd like to know what it runs.

All the vintage mag. articles claim 13.6 - 13.8 from a '70 W-30 442, it'll run much better than that though if he can get traction.
1970 Gross Ratings.
360 hp, 510 ftlbs.
Net ( real world )rating.
300 hp, 450 ftlbs.

The ultimate olds is the '69 Hurst Olds w/ 390( under rated) hp and 510 ftlbs. ran 12.8 - 13.1 in the 1/4.

He says the car model is a ninety-eight... Is that an olds model or does he actually mean eighty-eight? Either way, the car he desctribes sounds like a sweet ride, he came to work today all fired up cause his friend got it running... He was slightly dissapointed when I said I wouldn't race for pinkslips LOL.

I'm surprised I didn't get completely flamed for not knowing the olds rocket was just a powerplant name...

It's kinda funny trying to use numbers from waay back... Hp ratings are gross and the 1/4 times are useless because the tires they used back then sucked so bad!

An olds 98,if you thought an 88 was big JUST WAIT till you see a 98, their about the same size as an air craft carrier. With a 455 rocket he'll have enough torque and hp, and with all that weight hell get enough traction (he'll spin a bit if he stabs her) I think he'll have you for the first '60 by about 2 car lengths after that you might start gaining on him its hard to say.I probly wouldn't bet on it if you've got an LG4. I really dont know all that weight might catch up with him.

Olds used the "rocket" name on all of its top dog 350's(325 hp) and 455's (360 hp) back in the muscle car days.
