$$$$ Race Will I Win?

I might be run'n this stang this weekend after i put my SLP tpi runners on. it's about a 89 or 90 mustang gt 5-speed, exhaust, and a cam, somewhere around a 240 duration, 480 lift. the motor was rebuild. i'm think'n about run'n him for $50 but dont wanna loose my money if u don't think i'll take him. my mods are in the sig. the SLP runners are go'n on this week before the race.

There needs to be more info. If when he rebuilt the engine did he do some work to the heads, intake, or internals. Does he know how to drive good, and are there any more mods, like gears, and small stuff that add up. If not I think you would have a good run with him.

stock rearend, the rebuild was to stock specs. no port/polishing or any head work. just new 5-speed tranny, the cam and full exhuast. he has some ****ty tires i noticed too. i should tear him up off the line. i just found out my friends 96 z28 automatic w/ only k&n filters beat him by 3 car lenghts. but i have never raced the 96 Z to compare how bad he lost to how bad i would loose.
anyone know how much the SLP runners will take of my 1/4 time? maybe a tenth? i have never ran it at the track but i'm guess'n another tenth off would mean i'd have another car legnth on him compare to just use'n my stock runners.

You will probably go slower after the SLP runners go on. You need to port the hell out of the plenum and gasket match it. You must also siamese the plenum to get optimum flow. The runners usually do nothing but kill torque on a 305. I would send them back and put the money towards a cam and heads...........

Get some good tires and you should have a prob beating him as long as you dont spin. I would also take the runners back off. The big base and runners are worth only about 2 tenths on a 350 and almost nothing on a 305. As for the 96 i thnk you should run him. i bet you would be surprised to see how you fare against him. But watch out for those automatics.

I used to live in rockford. Who's car or describe it and I may be able to tell you. But if he is modded runnung a .480 cam on a 302 and you are running a very unmodded 305...I REALLY HATE saying this...but he will win.

Unless you have stock suspension and he is lowered and you race down harrison. He will bottom out so bad he will have to stop.

I live in dekalb now but still know many rockford guys. and I know a number of hot mustangs. $50...you may not want to risk it. just my .02

how are u gonna be go'n slower? more airflow more HP. SLP rates em at 20 HP. please explain, i know they won't perform as well as if i ported intake n plenum and all that stuff.

oh, and the stang guy lives in rosco, his tires are ****ty seen him race the 96 and he was spin'n a little, i have drag radials so i'm good there, he only has cam and little stuff like intake n exhaust.
i can drive, i don't know bout this guy but if he is ****ty at a 5-speed he will definatly LOOSE!

Little things on Mustangs can go a long way. Minor bolt will send the stick cars well into the 13s.

maroon fox body mustang (80's style) 5-speed, exterior is stock look'n, he has full exhaust and a cam, u can hear the cam pretty well when it idles. the driver is about 18 and has short hair, brown i think. he did say he is from rosco so maybe u know him. i don't have to worry now though. heads n cam!

i dont think ive ever seen a maroon one up here, but then again, i dont have my license yet(34 days ). my friends, the ones i have talked to, havent raced one, and i havent seen one at my school either. only one i have seen thats even half way respectable is a late 80's gt that runs around with a newer cobra.
btw: have you, or anyone around here, ever raced a kid in a black 2nd gen rx7?

well, i had to play with him in a golf tournament, and he was braggin about how many third gens he wastes around here cause i tould him i was lookin for one. hes got intake and exhaust, plus 125000 miles. he says he runs 13's, could he, i dont know those cars? he told me he was gonna get nitrous and a turbo like next week, and im like, youre gonna blow that thing up, and he says so, ill just get a new engine. just venting a lil.
after the tournament he did a burn out and pissed all the old people off, which was kinda cool

if he is N/A I doubt he runs 13´s
can be done yeah but it is a lot of work

turbo 13´s are fairly easy to get with a second gen even using the stock turbo and motor. but with just a intake and exhuast I doubt it. needs a boost controller also though he would also be smart to get a new fuel pump and injectors if he was running that.

turbo and N2O do not mix well unless you have a built up motor
