First encounter with an '03 Cobra on the streets from 60 mph

No, not in my car. That would've been a good race

On our way down 64 coming from the beach today, I was riding with a friend with a bone stock '00 GT. He races maybe once every 5 or 6 weeks and has gone 13.96 @ 98.6. So we're crusing along when he spots a blue '03 Cobra coming up in the rear view. We slow down and get beside him and give him a thumbs up and he waves. A few miles down the street, the traffic cleared and we were still side by side. I looked over at him (I'm in the passenger seat) and he pointed in front of us, so I told Johnny I think he wants to race. Johnny looked over, and the guy pointed again and Johnny pointed, then the guy pointed again and tells us to take a head start So Johnny drops into 3rd and he's off long enough to put two car lengths on the Cobra before the Cobra takes off. In less than 2 seconds the Cobra was right beside us again, we were still at WOT and the Cobra driver was just looking over smiling and pacing us all the way up to about 95 - 100 then he looks in front of him, and dropped the hammer then proceeded to not only pull on us, but put buslengths on us in a matter of a few seconds.

Nice!

I got my first expeirence yesterday with an "03 Cobra. Not racing it though. I was hanging out down the beach alone grabing a bite to eat and the guy pulled next to me with the Cobra and we BSed for a while. He then gave me a ride in it and it PULLS hard! Good thing the seats are nice because my back was being pushed back into it the whole time! As he left, he gave me a look at what they can do off the line. For 400HP..they hook and MOVE! The nise just came up and he was gone! The whine of the blower at WOT is unbelievable! Sounds like a Lightning!

yeah, but dont try and order one, my gf's dad went and they said he would have it for 6 months and they couldnt give him a price for his mustand cause it would be 6 months old by then. the bad part is, his is a 98. immacualte, cervini body kid minus the front bumper, that is a xenon, functional ram air, hutst shifter, 4.10's, PERFECt paint, PERFECT interior, 20,000 miles and they woulndt give him even an approx. price cause it wouldnt be untill 6 months and he'd have more miles on it.... if he onloy put 20,000 on in 4 years (12,000 in first year) dont you think an extra 6 months wouldnt matter.

Needless to say he told them he could shove it up their ***, for the 35,000? he could make his own a lot faster.

and on the sticker itw as marked up 3k for one that is sold in the place... ..asked why? the answer he got... ...cause they can!

If he shopped around he wouldn't have any problem finding one at MSRP.

I don't know it's called 'supply and demand'. They have the supply and you want it so they can charge more, they have the monopoly on the cars.

In any event, there's no way you guys were gonna catch up to that Cobra

Yea, I think everyone knew what the outcome would be, but it was kind of cool to see exactly how fast it was. I'm not sure I could have even hung with it from 60 - 120 in my coupe.

i red an article in 5.0 mustang tonight where they finally got to put some bolt on's on an 03... intake(same as the lightning's) and a catback exhaust.. dyno'd 400hp/380tq at the wheels! they ran 11.95@116. just think of the possibilities.. thats no tuning, no more boost, no cams, no gears... ouch

the dealer says alot are adding 5,000. ...whether that was to get him to buy from them or not, I dont know.

But you cant really shop around to much since they can only be bought at SVT dealers, you cant get a 2003 cobra at just any dealer. It has to be SVT authorized

There's a bunch of guys over at the Corral who didn't pay for markups on their '03s. Guess it depends on how patient you are and how willing you are to shop around for the best deal. I've seen three at the dealerships around town and they all went at MSRP.

Try dealing with Harley Davidson dealers
makes that ford dealership look like a walk in the park.
a $16,500 bike (HD V-rod) first one liquid cooled with over 100Hp
and one dealership wanted $27K for it
i laughed in their face.
