You Don't Need 400hp to hit 13s.

This is from another post, and I don't mean to start a flame war, just wanted to make something clear.

You don't need 400 hp to hit 13s in our cars.
My car is fully loaded/t-tops. I am pushing about 300hp and I'm hopin for a very low 14. Now if I had put 4:10s in I should have been able to hit 13s. So remember HP isn't everything, do you realize what a higher stall TC can do?

With new heads and a higher stall TC , I'm hoping for high 12s, and with new heads I'm lookin at 380hp in DD2000.

Actually, once you break the 13 second barrier, if you can get mid to high 13's then most of the time, some good traction of the start can get you into the 12's

400hp to hit 13? riiiiiigght. my Corvette came from the factory rated at 240hp (i think thats a little uderrated, though) and ive added basically nothing to it and i run 13.4s. with my light mods i MIGHT be pushing 275hp, nowhere near the 400hp "required" to run 13s. ill barely be pushing 300hp and should be in the 12s.

Hp means nothing. It's torque and traction to run a straight line. If you only have one, then it's no good, you have to have a good amount of both to get into the 12's.

400 hp to run 13's? If you've got 400 hp you'd damn well better be running better than 13's!

Oh, and IBTL = In Before The Lock :lala:

Here's an example. This car has around hp, but it's not shown in this.

1970 Monte Carlo full interior show car.
383 with MADD Torque.
Mickey thompson Et streets and traction bars.

we took it to a 12.9@93mph, yes 93mph. It's all about the torque, and launching that torque without losing it in tirespin is what will give you the times.

This is what I was trying to explain in the other post. But one of the members would just not believe me no matter how many examples I showed. Where were you guys .

I just read all those posts and all those guys are assclowns. if you can't get 400 hp into the 12's you got problems or a flat tire. my one stock 95Z28 (3500lbs.) times are in sig along with power at the wheels. it just needs traction to get in the 13's. havn't ran the 83 yet hoping for low 12's N/A

Like I said in another post.
Take a 1992 Z28 with 350TPI with 2:73s will run a 14.5 or so.

Now add 3:42s and a higher stall TC and you're at 13s with a stock motor with only 240hp or so.:lala:

In my '88 GTA (350) I've run a best of 14.02 at 99.6 mph with 223 dynoed rear horses (running rich according to the air/fuel monitor). 60 ft time of 2.00 on Pep Boy tires. MANY times very similar.

I like how there was that guy who had the 79 camaro with "light mods" that was running a 13.9. And he was making fun of the 305 motor. This just makes no sense to me because the tbi L03 motor makes like 170 hp and the 350 in his camaro makes almost exactly the same power stock. So a smaller motor making the same as his car. Ok and light mods on a second gen does not bring you to a 13.9. Me and my friend worked on my friends 76 350 camaro and we put a full exhaust and a went thru the free mods. Sorry to say that the car only ran a 15.2 in tucson. Still nice cars and I know they can be totally woken up with some bigger mods. And 400 hp to get in the 13's? I haven't read so much b.s. in a while. The guy named snjracer or something like that was saying how the power to weight ratio wouldn't get our cars that fast but maybe he hasn't heard of torque! Driving around a civic with like 100 ft pounds of torque would do that to you.
