dropped hammer on LT1 6 speed!!!

okay so im cruising back from gym and im just cheeling listening to some boston - more than a feeling when i didnt even notice it pull up, but a 4th gen 93-97 formula pulls up and doesnt rev or anything...tinted windows and its white...about two weeks ago i raced a 4th gen t/a with catback/k&n/ignition yada yada and he got me by a car and a 1/2, so i wanted to test the afpr and pullies out. i look back (again) to check his taillights, no brake lights were on!!! its a six speed again! woot this is the same xact car except it is a formula...it had a catback...so light goes green, neither of us let eachother get far ahead (hes 1/4 of car up on me), i hear him squeal and i drop 1st gear hard, i spun out...the freaking nittos werent warm, he pulled to 1/2 car, then i hit 2nd earlier than he did jumped back to where we started...we were even in 2nd (me at his fender)...hit 3rd...it looked like he was gonna jump on me but nope...i hit 3rd too and i jumped my car also...i stayed where i started so that means these pullies and afpr made up for about car and 1/2!!! scweet these things rock...if only the nittos were warm i woulda taken him across the intersection and I would have had the lead...oh well, this guy was PISSED off that an iroc kept up with him, he had atleast a catback and im sure a K&N (who doesnt)...he was pissed, he just looked over like and i busted out laughing, im sure he heard me laughing, i was crackign up...oh man i couldnt help myself i was so excited...so im right there with LT1s...just need that prom, remove smog, remove air, and nittos warm and i should pull on them easily...mmmmmmmm does this mean 13s?!!?!?!?!?!?! i thought formulas were light.

Good kill, doesn't mean 13s just cause you beat him. He may not have been a good driver. Not saying that he wasn't.

Take out those +4s and you'll be in the 13s. Seriously, why waste money on those things.

no kiddin'

Expensive plugs are pointless, run some good ol' champion golds or somethin' , shoot, I run the cheapie auto lites from wal-mart!

And if you are gonna run a nice plug, get the Ac Delco Rapid Fires, they don't foul, and perform very well ( still not worth 7.50 for 2 though.)

By the way, nice race, you can't depend on the DR's planting every time though, learn how to launch you car no-matter what, the way you launch changes every time you mod it. I have a terrible time launch my t-5, 3.73's and a centerforce = near impossible traction in 1st.

er i know telling hp is a very difficult thing w/o getting dynoed, but the LT1 6 speeds have about 275hp am i correct??? we have the same gears, basically same tranny, he is a tad lighter i think...the formula. wouldnt this put me at around 275hp at the fly??? which is like 220 at the rear? and if im not mistaken also, most of them did run 13s, least both LT1s I raced (the first one was a better driver) barely got me, so even if i was behind a 13.8 second LT1 by 1/2 car that would be a 14.0??? IM OBSESSED WITH 13s!

90,
to answer some of your ?'s...

Yes the formula is the lightest of the 4th gens...but is still heavier than a 3rd gen. (my guess is around 3300-3500lbs)

LT1's average low 14's at the track in bone stock form. Im not saying that you arent running 13's, just that mostLT1's run very low 14's. All it takes are a few minor bolt ons and they are solid 13 second cars.

I'd say that your car SHOULD be at least a high 13 second car. The general rule of thumb in drag racing is that for every .1 you take off the 60' time, you can take .2 off of your ET. You should at least be able to pull a 1.9 with some warm nittos, so say hello to 13's.

Where in chicago are you? I have a LT1 6 speed that you could run on the street (for fun, or $$ if you are interested). Then you'd know for sure if you were in the 13's!

PM me if you are interested!!!

-Doug

I raced a 96 Camaro SS a few weeks ago and he didn't start pulling away until 4th gear. but I had the t-tops off. I think he was pissed that he couldn't get away but then I told him he had a sweet ride.

those cars should be better than just low 14's I think. I was real surprised cause all I have is headers, 2.5" duals, and a ported plenum.

Was this Formula by any chance red with a ws6 hood and borla exhaust? I raced this guy down 159th, and I beat him by like a car at 70! I probably should not have won this race! He must have been givin it some gas, because he sqealed into second, and chirped into 3rd. I don't know whats wrong with this guys car that 305s could be takin him down!

i think you just have a well tuned car, 45 horsepower more than stock with a few boltons isnt unheard of, but i think you just have an extremely well tuned car and are most likely a good driver as well.

You'll need few more mods to get into the 13's. The Stealth Ram and a Cam would do it.

A 14.4 with a 2.2 60' time = 13's with a 2.0 or better!

a stock formula with a 6sp will run the 1/4 in 14.2 @ 99mph 0-60 in 5.4sec and a top sp of 156.3mph an advertised 275hp but is said by many that it is under rated, and weighed I believe 3,375lbs but I am not positive
