Me vs a 5.0.... (long)

....about 4pm coming back from the mall and the interstate is crazy, VA drivers do not know how to drive, everyone decides they need to go 20 mph, traffic backed up for miles, all the lemmings going home for the day.
well I can't take this any more so i decide to get off the Hwy 2 exits early and take the roads home. well as i exit the interstate what do i see in my rear view? a nice blue late 80s 5.0 mustang. kid is on my bumper, not really being a butthead, just had the same idea as me, the interstate sucks and he don't want some stupid SUV to have a chance to cut him off.
we both get off at the same exit, we both pull a semi illegal U-turn to get going back to the main road. and guess what I see? a nice big shinny red light at a clear intersection.
I pull into the right lane and he gets into the left. no one in front of us and two mini vans behind us. the road in front is about 1 mile of nothing but undeveloped field on both sides.
I've got limp bizkit on the CD player, one hand on the shifter, down low in 1st gear and the other on the wheel.
kid in the 5.0 has his eyes foward, hat backward, tense look on his face, "hmm is he going to go for it?"
I edge my car up alittle, he does the same. "hmm i think we have something going on here"
I look ahead, I see the yellow from the crossing road, then the red. a split second later, there is our green.
I give that baby some gas, I can't stomp it because i know the tires will spin, it hooks, and the pedal then goes to the floor.
boom, 5000 rpms and i slip it into 2nd, look over and the stangs nose is in front of mine, damm can't let him beat me, boom, it slip it into 3rd, I pray i don't overshift it into 4th wishing i had a B&M.
we are getting some speed now and the 'maro is edging out infront of the 5.0
Boom, 4th gear, I've got about 3/4 of a car in front, I look down at the speedo and I know it's time to shut it down.
besides, with my luck I know the next light is going to be a big ugly RED and if I keep going over that hill there will be a cruiser with some blue overheads waiting for us.
I take my foot of the gas, he passes me alittle before he knows the race is over and he too shuts it down. As we crest the hill what do we see, that Red light staring at us. But thankfully no cop.
as we stop at the light together he finally looks over gives me a slight smile like a little boy that just did something wrong, but loved every minute of it, and shakes his head. he points at the red light that is about to turn.
I shake my head and make the right turn and head home.
later

good story man. these are the kinds of racing stories I like to read, not the "I beat a Cavalier" or "I got dusted by a Civic". keep 'em coming. I'm sure I'll have a couple when I get home for Thanksgiving.

Unfortunately, late 80s 5.0s will run even with a 350.

Sounds like a good race. I agree that it is better than some stories. Such as beating an old women on an electric Rascal scooter. She pulled hard on me out of the hole, than after I hit 2nd I walked her SOOO BAAAADDD!

I can't say that I particularly like limp bizkit, but I must say their tunes are catchy. It's funny though when I go back and listen to some of the stuff I used to like and I wonder what in the hell I could have been thinking, i.e. Korn. When limp bizkit comes on now, it makes me angry, and excited...... probably not a good time to race, but I do nevertheless.

ya i know what you're saying. Their music is catchy but it just doesn't appeal to me much. Fred durst is a little too whiny for me. Only album I ever liked from them was their first. anything after that was aimed at selling out and just making money.

You are right he does go 13.3s, but then again I go 13.9s!!!

That is about the race between a 5.0 and a L98, it comes down to driver with similar mods!

I like reading good stories and not the "I smoked this" crap that everyone posts. Good race!

I listen to Limp. What's the big deal? I could care less about the singer's Off-stage attitude and antics. I don't like being told i shouldn't listen to this music or that music because it's TRL teeny-booper stuff or the band is in it for the money. I listen because I love the music.

Sure Metallica sold out, but any of you guys ever hear the S&M's CD"s? I think it's the best Metallica out there and play those CD"s all the time.

I am the most musically diverse person I know. I can listen to Tool one second, go to some Joe Satriani, toss in some Jay-Z and then even like some "soft" stuff like Vanessa Carlton. (don't laugh if you ever see a mean Black 5.0 blasting VC)

Here's laughing at you in your black 5.0 listening to VC! Man, you have the same taste I do! Serious, when I make mix cd's I'll listen to some Slipknot, System Of A Down, then to some kid singing who's probably a *** then some country and then some DMX. I don't give two craps about what the singers do outside of their music. I hate Eminem with a passion, but his music is alright. I like music, don't care for the people though.

I like late 80's hair metal bands. My favorite is Bon Jovi, Number 1 selling CD in the US last week and this week so far! They kick ***

Lol.. Yeah I don't know about Bon Jovi..but some limp bizkit stuff is catchy. The old stuff is good(stuck, clunk, counterfeit), but then Fred started shouting and he just sounds terrible. I used to listen to Korn, but I can't anymore. I just don't like it now. I guess it was just a phase.
