went out looking for someone to play with a few weekends ago after spending the day waxing and windexing. I hit the local freeway and head for the other side of town. As I merge into traffic, what whips by me but a late 80s red 5.0. I wouldnt have wasted my time with him normally but he had a large decal in the rear window that read " All Throttle, NO Bottle", so I thought to myself 'what the hell' and caught up to him. I subtly cruised beside him and kicked the throttle a couple times, he got the hint. I hear him down shift so I follow suit and ran with him for a few, and then I let off to get around traffic and follow him through. Once were clear again, I get back up beside him and hear him down shift again, so I drop back to second and look over at him. The look on his face caused me to nearly bust a gut, this poor kid was gripping the steering wheel with one hand and the gear shift with the other, and was hugging the steering wheel like he was pushing that 5.0 for all she was worth. I'm still in second gear at 6300 and start bouncing the throttle waiting for him to do something. About this time his girlfriend leans over and looks around at me, I give her a big smile, stick my hand up and wave bye-bye as I hammer the throttle, slap it into third and keep the pedal buried. I guess he shouldnt have advertised the NO bottle part. lol theres more to this particular friday night if anyones interested!

I see people doing that wheel hugging stuff all the time, I still don't understand it!

 

Does sound like a nice car. I love when ppl think their cars are fast, so they can burn the local rice, but when it comes to cars in their own league they get blown away. I enjoy to burn rice as much as the next guy, but I do not advertise my car as being super fast because I can beat some sap in a grandma car.

Well, like I said, there was more to this story......Later on that same night, I am cruising the local strip where the ricers hang out and compare plastic and noise. I notice a black 5.0 a couple cars ahead of me in the next lane...this one sounds good....real good! I can see the open flowmasters underneath, and the bfg drag radials wrapped around a nice set of Welds. I look through the back glass as I get a little closer and can see the 'monster' tach with shiftlite, of course I have to look through the big decal on his rear glass that reads, guess what! All Throttle, NO Bottle"........ So I have to laugh to myself and think "no way is this possible". Anyways I pull up beside him and goose the throttle, he looks over at me and grins, I grin back. Due to traffic congestion, we just play for the next three miles, goosing and revving past each other, laughing as we go. I must say, by this time I am a little concerned about this one.. Finally, we reach my destination...a little sideroad that stretches straight for about a mile and hit my turn signal, he follows....cool ! I pull into the left lane and stop, he pulls up to my right. After a few compliments are exchanged, we agree to 'get it'. I pull back into first and listen for him to dump the clutch. I have to idle in order to hear him dump it, but as soon as he does, I hammer the go pedal and hold it there. First gear goes up in smoke, I fishtail for the next 30 feet or so and have about a half car lead on him. I see my shift lite activate at 7200 and reach up to hammer second, my car jumps to the right hard enough that I am thinking I should get out of it before my *** end sideswipes this guy. Just then, my bfg radial t/a (junk) take a good bite of the asphalt and I'm off. I bang third at 7300 and look in the right side mirror expecting him to be right with me,but no......I have use my rear view to double check and I have five or six car lengths on this guy, by this time Im running 6300 in third and decide he has had enough so I tap the brakes a couple times to let him know I'm off the gas. I take the next turn off to head back to the local cruise and he follows me...so now I decide its time to show off a little and hammer a 1-2 shift right in front of him and pitch my Z at least three feet to the right and leave him behind. I pull in to the gas station up ahead and he follows me in. We begin to BS for a few and he tells me all the mods he has done, and then proceeds to tell me " I think I'm out of juice, I hit the button a couple times but nothing happened"..

 

So, any slips? It sounds like with that redline you should be running 10s!!!

I thought he said he had all throttle, no bottle, I guess he lied. At least you were both cool about it. Oh ya what mods did he have, because my car has Flowmasters, it had 275 DRs and a 5" tach w/lite, and my car is pretty slow!!!

Sorry...no slips! This is just a toy that I like to play with. I dont think it is all that fast myself, but everyone that I have take for a ride is ready to get out in a hurry. I was trying to build a car that would scare me a little and was dissapionted with this one.

Let me see if I get this right, I think he told me that he was running an Xcam?,24lb injectors, ported 93 heads, 65mm TB, 2.5 exhaust with crossover, and 3.73s. He never told me what he ran in the quarter.

Yeah, I agree with the nitrous strapped into a car the claims to have none, but what the hell. It was all in fun, I dont take it seriously and have had my doors BLOWN by a nitrous car. That was quite an experience to say the least. LOL
