88 Iroc vs 01 celica
I have a stock 88 IROC with an L98 and 2.77 rear end. Does anyone thing I can beat a 2001 toyota celica gts. My Road and track told me they run 15.4. I am not sure what the effect of 14 years and 60,000 miles is on my car.

Thats 15.4 with a driver that doesn't have to drive the car every day and pay for maintenence so he pounds on it as hard as he can and barely gets a 15.4 after several slower runs. Most people are going to manage alot slower. So shine up those tail lights so he has something pretty to look at.

I have a friend who swears they run 13's with intake header and exhaust. Im like yeah okay. He says its because they weigh so little. He says that is because they are so light and hes seen them beat cougars. Methinks someone has been lying to him, cause I doubt they respond THAT well to bolt ons. Go hand him his a$$ for me.

Well the *** kicking is on for this weekend if my car gets out the body shop in time. I talked to the celica guy today he swears he beat a 2000 Mustang GT with his still stock celica. I have to admitt that I am very much looking forward to beating him down.

dude one of the guys who works here has a celica with CAI and TRD exhaust and picked up absolutly ZILCH!! even the lost weight from his wallet did no improvements lol. they WERE slow......they ARE slow.......and they WILL BE slow. if it's not an mr2 or supra with an assload of mods i am in no way worried about toyotas. i'd be more worried about one of the new 2WD V8 4runners with the add-on TRD supercharger but i'll still wax one of those as would most of the other f-bodies on this board. granted i have only worked for toyota for 2.5 years....but i have seen first hand of what they are capable of and it it ain't much.
that last statement does not include modded supras and mr2's

I have been a member on NewCelica.org for about a year and a half. I have seen mustang GT kills, and they're usually the 96-98s, occasionally they are the 5.0s, and more rarely they are the new GTs. It's is pretty much accepted there that a GT-S will not outrun a well-driven new GT. They are capable of high 14s stock (driven like they're stolen), and mid 14s with the intake (CAI) and exhaust. They trap over 92-94 mph stock (I think). Also, they can't launch for crap so insist on going from a stop. Many there believe that they are very capable of competing with older mustang GTs on the high end where they take advantage of excellent aerodynamics, and high rpm power-band.
If the GT-S is an auto, that will slow it down significantly. They need to stay in lift (vvtl-i) to compete. The autos drop out of lift with every shift. Recently they lowered the rev-limiter, too, but I don't think they did on the 2001s. On those, I think they could stay in lift after every shift. On the newer ones, they can't.
That's pretty much all I know about them. I haven't been terribly impressed with them in a straight line. In fact, my friend outran one to his speed limiter (115) in his 1999 V6 mustang while I was in the passenger seat, but I think it was an auto.
I don't know how quick your car is, but I say get the launch and you'll beat him through the 1/4. I think a stock 350 might actually have a difficult time in the high speed race, but I'm not sure.
