guy is talking crap???

right now i have a broken leg and cant really even get out of the house. well this highschool kidcame by today to show off his new car, an 1991 z28 with L98, TPI with a 700R4 with a B&M shift kit. from what i can tell the engine is stock with nothing but K&N air filters and a flowmaster muffler(no headers). i have a 357 with a Comp cam xe282 cam and 1.6 roller rockers, ported and polished heads, stock intake and a 750 carb. i have headers and a cat back flo-pro system, and a turbo 350 tranny, gonna get changed before i can race though to a built 700r4 i have. he says he will beat me by more than 4 car lengths, is this true or do i have a lame setup for a car. oh yeah he has 3.73 posi, and i have 3.42 peg leg what do u guys think.

Why do you still have the stock intake with all that work done? If you've got what you say, you should be able to beat him if it's running well.

the stock intake is there for a couple reasons, i just put the engine in a couple months ago, and i was running out of money. also i have a really bad broken leg and cant put a new one on right now, but i hope to get a new one for christmas, and i dont know which one to get. how much would a new intake really help, and which one should i get, I know its the wrong board though.

Intake

I would go with a weiland stealth or a performer RPM air gap. The air gap is much more expensive, but people in this board say that the weiland stealth is the best. Especially with your cam and heads.

I'll let you know how the holley street dominator intake goes when my car gets done...should be this week since the guys said the roller rockers should be in any day (said last thurdsay).
I know that I will need more carb in the future since the 670 won't cut it...my friend is gonna give me his stub stack and that's good for another 30CFMs. MAYBE with that and jejetting my car will run OK till I can get a 750 vac secondary.

I'd wager you will win, but it will be a close race. A high stall torque converter and a new intake (as stated above) would pretty much guarantee you the win.

Mark: i found the cam specs and you are right it is xe262, my dad said we put in a xe282, my mistake for listening to my dad, thanks for catching that!!

With all that said, this could be close, but you do have exhaust, exactly what heads do you have? this might be the deciding factor.

i have full exhaust, hedman headers and y-pipe with a 3" cat-back flo-pro system made by Magnaflow, oh and of course no cat. I have 186 heads but they have been ported and polished, they have 1.94/1.5 valves.

Here's my prediction.

He's goin to take you off the line, due to the TPIs monster TQ, deep 1st gear on the 700R4 (3.06 or so), and he has 3:73s. However , those 3:73s will hurt him in the 1/4 mile since his power band doesn't go much higher than 4500rpms.

So, him off the line, but you in the 1/4 mile by a few car lenghts, please let us know what happens, I'm interested in this race.
