400 projections....

I posted this in the drag forum, but it'll probably get more feedback in here....sorry for repost....

Ok, I'm not usually big on theoretical stuff, but just humor me here. It's been wet lately, and I have yet to get insurance on my beast, so I haven't been able to take it to the track. I'd like you fellas' input on what you think my car will run with the combo I have. Hit me up with predictions, and I'll post back when I get results (most likely 1/8th mile at first).

Here's what I have:

SBC 400 ci
Weiand Stealth intake
Carter AFB 600 carb
stock smogger heads/cam
no a/c or smog equip
Heddman headers
3" catless exhaust
single-out Flowmaster
Mallory Hy-Fire Ignition box
MSD Blaster 2 coil
2.73 pegleg rearend (I need a posi !!)
stock stall 700-R4
crappy 245/60/15 radials


I really need to get to the track, and I fully plan to as soon as weather and finances permit. This car is a bitsh to launch with the pegleg, gobs o' torque, and nasty tires....I haven't even gotten a good race in it yet!

(the only race I got so far was on the freeway at night with an LS1 SS with 6-speed and exhaust...from a 50-110 roll he pulled like 2 cars on me...not a good gauge of performance...)

With the rear and the stock headers/cam, I'm thinking low 14s. Now, with a 3.42 or 3.73 posi in there, we're definitely talking 13s on good tires

With the stock heads/cam, I see maybe a few tenths improvement over the 350.

400's need good heads to perform the way they should.

agree'ed.. if u dont plan on putting some decent $$ into the heads.. the 400 will act just a bit better then 350 hp/tq wise.

yeah, my eventual plans are Vortec heads, an Edelbrock 750, and a bigger cam. I just wondered what people thought I would do. I've got everything from high 15's to low 14's so far. As soon as I get a chance, I'm heading to the track.

Eventually, this will be under the hood!

crap, I dunno, I'm a broke white boy...that's a way old pic, too...Banks doesn't make twin-turbo kits for SBC anymore
