Beat a GN tonight, by a LOT....
tonight was the first night iv'e had the car out with the new heads, intake and carb setup, and i had quite a bit of fun. My first race was from a role with a fox body stang that has 4:10's UD pulleys, and an intake. We went from about 30 and by the time i hit 80 i had at least 4 carlengths on him.
Second race was against a n/a 300zx. didn't really wanna waste my gas on this one, but this guy just wouldn't leave me alone. We raced from a stop to about 70, had at least 10 carlengths on him.
Now on to the good part. The 300zx does a flyby and i let him go. Once he's about 8 carlengths in front of me i see him hit the brakes, and hear him revv. at this point i'm slightly confused so i play catch up. Once i get within about 3 carlengths of him i see what he is revving on. A Grand National. I hear them both hit it (were doing about 70 btw) and i drop 3rd and chase them. The laft lane is open (3 lane highway), and i proceed to walk past the 300zx like he's standing still(middle lane), and then walked by the GN(right lane). We shut off at about 120~ and i had a carlength on him. When we pulled over he told me he was stock except for a boost controller, and some other small crap, and that he usually runs 13.7ish. I was happy overall with the results of it. This means i might just have a prayer at seeing 12's this Friday. Assuming the tranny still works by then
BTW, i got off work on Friday, so i will definately be at Cecil Co. Hope to see you all there....

nice kill. To beat a GN is great, and to give him 3 cars first and still win is amazing
Nice dude. One day i might actually break out of the 16's, and you better watch out!

nice kills! beaing a GN is no easy feat. i went up against one at the track and he went 11.5s!!!
found out later he lives a few miles from me, how cool is that!
hope to see you at Cecil this Fri, i could use the help taking down some of the imports that are gunning for me. theres a WRX that supposedly runs high 12s (hes never been to the track though) so having another car that will run where im at will certainly help. if one of us doesnt get him, the other should

what up Ian? i saw your car sitting out there Friday when i drove by, i want your spoiler
The car sounds good from about 20 feet, but when you get close to it you can hear about 8 different tiny exhaust leaks, and they're driving me nuts. I wanted to fix those today, but i woke up about 4 hours late, so no time to do it. Owell
Thanks guys. This definately made me feel like all the cussing and general anger in my garage was actually worth it...
EDIT: man i can't wait till cecil, can't wait to see you guys there. We are leaving at about 4:30. i'll have at least one 5.0 with me, along with an 84 monte that SHOULD be running right with me. Hopefully these three guys i know with 12 second Ls1s will come up with us too...

Nice kills
What year GN is it? If he's only running 13.7s he really isnt modded like you said but add a GN and 300Z to you kill list

It was an 84 (non intercooled). Really all he had was a boost controller and some headers, nothing major. Then again it doesn't take much with those things. He didn't say what mph he ran, but he was on rather weak lookin street tires, so maybe that was a factor...
Either way i beat a GN

Beating a GN from a 70mph roll isn't very hard.. these cars make most of the power in the lower rpm range. From 0-60 you would be seeing taillights, after that you'd slowly reel it in. (If it were a modified GN and an intercooled one...)

the hot air GNs and intercooled GNs are completely different animals. non-intercooled regals usually went low 15s stock at best, while the 86/87s can go as fast as high 13s. the hot air GNs didnt respond as well to mods as the intercooled ones. big difference between the 2

good lord, sorry for being happy about something....
The fact that it was a GN really means nothing to me. The fact that he ran 13.7 and i absolutely destroyed him does. the fact that i've been outside cussing at this car for the past two months trying to get it together and tuned right, and finally having something to show for it means something. Of course i'm being i bit big headed about it, I'm 18 and this is the first time i've ever gone past the valve covers on an engine. Add in the fact that i paid for it myself, and did 100% of the work myself, and you can see why. who wouldn't be proud about that? I mean honestly....

Not trying to put you down, just stating the facts. If he ran a 13.7 and you killed him, thats cool. I know what it's like to be cussing at your car for months (7 actually) trying to get it to run. I also know how damn good it feels when things actually work out. Nice kill.
