Well, doesn't forced induction kind of cancel that out? What keeps the RX-7 from ruling the street? Rotary is soo much more efficient than our piston pounding V8s...
(Almost sounds sexual) :sillylol:
Ummm one of the reasons they stoped making them for awhile is because they arnt as efficient as they should be, but they make alot of power out of a small package, I was looking into getting a 96 RX7 once but I just don't fit well in that car. (6'5") Also i was told for more power you could always hook up too rotary engines, the 91 RX7's have some really small rotary engines. you guys should take a look at one some time.

So Bob and Rob are riding along in their horse driven carriage. Bob gets to thinkin'...

"Rob?" Bob says.
"Yah, Bob."
"One horse carries us in this here horse driven carriage pretty dern well, right?" Asks Bob.
"Yah, Bob." Rob Replies
"Well... why not put two horses in front of this here horse driven carriage?" Bob suggests. "We could have twice as good as this dern lonely horse up there."

And *** said, let there be speed.

EDIT: lol...g0d is censored? meh...
I dont know if I like the fact that I can't say
Thank ***. But I can say praise Ala ... lol
(No offense!...please don't take offense!)

never had a 96
last year was 95

least stateside

the reason they are not being made anymore isn't because of how efficient they where

but the thirdgen 93-95 rx7 did have some issues that mazda never fix.... can be fixed by the owner though fairly easily.
price 35,000 brand new in 93
and the two seat sport car market took a dump at that time....
a lot of two seat sport cars died off at that time....

also as far as hooking up two engines together

too much work
you would need some sort of weird coupler just to make it work right

best thing if you want a larger motor is go buy a 20b from japan
easy easy easy 500hp and quite a bit of torque even
problem is cost... and if you want to set the car up too keep the good handling and weight distro... you would want to cut the firewall, move the motor about 6-7 inches back... move the tranny back.... get a shorter driveshaft... and all the other stuff that goes with that... not worth it....... YET!!!!!

OK........ enough about the damn RX7!!!!! It's not the only Maz-duh in existence ya know!!!!!!!

You can call me a rycer!!!!!! My wife and I also have a '93 MX6. I think it's a POS, but that just because replacement parts cost SO DAMN MUCH!!!!

Front calipers for my Camaro...... $13
Front calipers for the Maz-duh.....$50

It's got a 2.5L V6 with a 5 spd. It's about 160HP and 160 lb.ft/TQ. Not bad considering the car only weighs ~2700 lbs.

Weight/HP ratio for my Camaro...... 3600lbs. @ 170HP is 21.2lbs/hp.
Weight/HP ratio for the Maz-duh.....2700lbs. @ 160HP is 16.9lbs/hp.

And it is fun winding a motor to 7K, and still having a descent amount of torque compared to a 4 banger. And that thing handles on rails. My car would if the *** end would quit drifting on me.

Here's a pic...... We just put the wheels on yesterday. $932 for 17"x7" wheels/Nitto tires/mounted/balanced/and shipped. I wish wheels for my car were that cheap.

Sorry...... no big wings or fart cans on this car. It's gonna be mostly GO with a LITTLE bit of show.

Most of us non import guys are mainly concerned with Mazdas Rx-7 and disregard the other models. There are 3 MX6s in Carbondale. They don't seem like anything special like the Rx-7s are.

That was a joke aimed at rx7speed.

That's good! At least I know it's closer to the sleeper look then.

I get tired of people always talking about Nissans Skylines and no one mentions the Nissan Silvias, which a lot of them when properly tuned can put out as much as 500bhp from a single turbocarged 4 cylinder and they are RWD too. Too bad they can't be imported to the U.S. because the U.S. equivelent the 240SX just plain sucks performance wise.

GTU is for the most part the same as any other Rx7

just has a LSD, almost no options, stiffer turbo susp, 4 piston brakes up front vs 1 piston for base, vented rear rotors, and an aero package.

all in all
about the same as my car

maybe low 16's high 15's stock

Besides having the engines shipped over from Japan, the Silvia engine swap is not as straight forward as you would think. There are a lot of modifications involved. It's worth it though if you can get it to work properly.

I think of the Siliva as Nissan's Camaro and the Skyline as Nissan's Corvette.

Here's a pic of an S15 Silvia modified by Abflung.

Well, now that the swap is popular, it is fairly common to get your hands on one of those engines. Back in the day it wasn't so easy. I'm just saying when you swap engines, you have to modify parts of the body to make the engine fit properly and do some splicing of the engine harness. The swaps are easier and easier now that more people have done them.

Street tires

Ran a best of 9.4 like this, usually 9.5's.
Trapped around 75 mph.

Talon:

2.5" cat-back
K&N in hacked housing, no silencer
Manual boost controller
No spare/jack
Street tires

Ran a best of 9.2 like this pretty consistently.
Trapped around 79 mph.

Same day, same track, numerous, numerous runs.

I would have to say that the cars were pretty similarly modded (i.e. both nearly stock). One could argue "if the Mustang had this and this it would've run this and this", but one could also argue that "if the Talon had this and this it would've run this and this". That's what the cars had, that's what the cars ran. I'm certainly not arguing with you about Mustangs being fast, because they are. I've been smoked by my share. It's just that I've learned better than to argue with people when they say "there's no way a DSM is going to be faster than a Mustang, and it's stupid to sell a Mustang for a DSM." It's just a waste of time.

I've beaten three Mustangs that ran 8.5's and 8.6's at the track on drag radials when they raced me from stoplights on street tires (I do have a few more cheapo mods, now). I accomplished this on a stock clutch which is barely holding on to life after 112,000 miles. The Mustang owners all go to the same tracks that I do and I know all of the owners personally. Yes, they were racing. Yes, they know how to drive.

If you'll notice, I'm not bad mouthing Mustangs, and I'm not trying to encourage a Mustang vs. DSM thread. I like Mustangs a great deal, and I test-drove several 5.0's when I was looking for cars...I just happen to prefer the DSM.

My friend also preferred DSM's, so that's why he bought one. He never had any intention of building an 8 second 1/4 mile monster, he wanted a reasonably quick street car that got decent mileage. I happen to enjoy all varieties of fast cars, but my personal tastes and practicality swayed me to the DSM. So did his. Your tastes may vary.

I feel the warmth of impending flames. I guess it won't be the first time.
OUCHH! He should have been in low 9's DEAD stock or even high 8's with traction in a light weight coupe. I take it he was not the best driver or the car was a little weak. All depends on the track to though. I just got an ex- Florida Highway Patrol car myself. The SSP cars are highly popular cars to restore or modify. I have a 3 friends with DSM's. All are 2nd gens though. They are all cheap to make fast but when they break....get out the $$$! Main reason I will stick with my Mustangs!
