hey ppl who know stuff about there VW bugs come in here

I have this guy at work who has a 64 bug bone stock with a 1600cc motor in it.... he claims a whole whopping 60-65hp in that things and thinks it will beat my cars ***....
he also thinks it runs 15's

he also doesn't believe my car makes 146hp stock from the fact b/c his old toyota truck with the 22R didn't even make that much power.... but that truck was quick to him...

and I run somewhere between an 18-20 second 1/4 mile according to him

so if we race who you think will win?

well i am no expert by far, but i own a VW engine on a sand rail. 60-65HP is not much at all, even for a small car like a bug. I would highly doubt that his car could run in the 15's, i would bet he might be high 17's. I have a 1600 VW engine, with big pistons and stroker crank for 1835cc. about 95-100 Hp on a sand rail that wieghs 1150 pounds with me in it, i would bet it might hit very very high 14's. so i would say race him and beat him bad to make him shut up.

A "bone stock" 64 Bug comes with a 40hp 1192cc engine (same one that came in my 61). It'll run something like mid 24's in the 1/4, and will probably snap the crank behind the #2 journal if he goes over 4000 RPM on it.

The 1600cc engine came stock in 1970+, and was originally rated at 53hp from the factory. (This was my second engine in the 61). If you put headers and dual carbs on it.. you might run a 19.

Race him in reverse.

this guy sounds like a real c*ck knocker.....

but one time i was at lebanon valley drag way in NY, and i saw a bug with some weird lawn mower sounding engine pull the wheels and come back down....then pull the wheels again every time he shifted....but it still only ran like 15sec. the thing was crazy light

Well, back in 1939, Hitler wanted a car everyone could afford. Ferdinand Porsche's Beetle hit the streets in 1946 and everyone could afford it. It was really only meant to get from point A to point B in German villages, with the first Bugs producing only 25 horsepower and having a top speed of 68 MPH. But they got over 30 MPG, cost a couple hundred bucks, and seated 4 adults. And that concludes our history lesson.

383BackinBlack: Check my sig. I'll be running much better than 15's tho. I ran 13's on my 2110cc engine.
