Z06 goes down
Z06 goes down
Well here is the story..........................
One of my friends came over to my house the other day and we both went out. Well we saw our other friend (which we don't see much) out driving. He was coming home from his g/fs and he saw us so he called us and we met up at a parking lot. We talked and he said that he wanted to see my car now that I got the supercharger on it. So we went back to my house and I took him out for a spin and came back. I tried a stand still burnout to heat my DRs up to show him the full on 1st gear with a blower and 4.10s. This time I did it in 1st gear and not 2nd gear. ALOT better results . Well I left thick black marks and tried to slip the clutch at 3,000rpms. It was too cold outside and it didn't hook up still. So I said screw it and went back to my house. He said "You car is crazy, its the fastest car I have ever been in.......You should race my friend." I asked what he had and he told me "a Z06 corvette" I said I didn't know what the outcome would be so I told him to call him and see if he would come out. He called him and we met up with the guy about 15 mins later at Burger King. After I was done drooling over his car and after he was done drooling over my supercharger we both went out. He said "lets go from a 3,000rpm drop in 2nd. I cant hook up in 1st." I told him neither could I with it being so cold outside. So we rolled out onto the highway and I'll admit that I gunned it before he did. I reved my engine up to 4,000rpms when it should have been riding at 3,000rpms then I saw him press it so I dropped the clutch and my car leaped ahead. All through 3rd we were pretty close with me INCHING away and as soon as he shifted into 4th and I had more rpms to go he started falling back and back. We shut down around 130mph and I was about 1 to 3 cars ahead. I'm never good at judging that. But he admitted that his car just didn't have enough power to keep up and he said the only reason he did as well as he did was because he was so much lighter. But damn was his Z06 nice. Black with the red and black interior. I told him that he could drive my car if he let me drive his but he just laughed and said nah. Still awsome time!

Nice race! Was the ZO6 stock? I saw a stock one at Milan this summer and he was running 12.5's pretty consistantly at anywhere from 111-114 MPH.
No, the Z06 had a cold air thing. It was two cone filters but he didn't have a lid. Other than that he was stock.
I called him today and asked him about his car, how much he paid, blah blah. And he said that I beat him by about 3 car lengths.

really nice race...
and mustve been a cool z06 owner...
usually the average z06 owner is either in his 60's
and doesnt even want to try ....or a real snob
in his late 20's who has made lot of money in wall
street....
nice ....so snake..just curious.....
did the s/c kit come with a computer
or does it still run in the stock computer
one of my friends got a 98 GT 'vert
(its slow.....) he is looking for a kit....

Yea he was VERY cool. You could tell he had way more money than he knows what to do with. He owned a RT-10 viper before the Z06 and he traded it in. He was in his late 30s I would say.
If your friend supercharges his GT he should get it dyno tuned right away. What happened with my setup is I bought the kit. ATI sent everything except for the 42lb injectors and the MAF. They send you a chip to plug into your computer but its not very accurate to your car's personal setup. Thats where dyno tuning comes in. MV Performance is the people who tuned my car and they tuned it for about 4 hours with about 5 dyno pulls. So my car could run forever with this setup and not hurt the engine at all. Thats how well they set it up.
Tell your friend since he has the early SOHC design heads he is not going to like his supercharger that much. Whats wrong is his heads are so restrictive that he will see alot more boost than he should because there is not much room for the air to go. This guy I know has a 10lb pulley on his 2000 GT and he is making 12 and sometimes 13psi because of his heads and exhaust (he has a weird exhaust setup). But my car on the other hand with the DOHC heads that flow VERY well makes less than I should. I have a 10psi pulley on my supercharger and I see 8psi. Reason being is because the air is being used so fast that its taking away from what the supercharger is meant to do (10psi). It sounds like a bad thing but its really not. Tell your friend to look into getting some 99+ GT heads. He should port and polish them and they would give him around 90rwhp. THEN when he gets his supercharger he will love it!

What the Z06? Hopefully. All I gotta say is I hope I have my solid axle by then or I know I will be seeing tail lights. He ran his Z06 at the track and said he managed to get a 1.9 60' on stock tires that were worn down. Don't think I can manage that without breaking a half shaft. *sigh* Ford should have copied the IRS from the Corvette. The guy that owns the Z06 said not only will it hook hard on the track it will also stayed glued to the road on a road course he went on. I think my next car will be a Z06 after college! :hail:
Man I wish we had some real road courses around here. We have to make due with what we got. So part of our road course includes the 1/4 mile track and the return road and the other end of the road course is where you line up for the 1/4 mile. Its very short and only has a few turns, but I have to admit its still fun to practice. Here's what it looks like:
What kind of road courses do you guys have around there? Because of the lack of road courses, alot of people here end up racing the mountains. We have a place called Round Top Drive where most people go to race. But its not cool because people live up there too.
