How fast does a car have to be for you to consider it fast? Speaking in terms of a 1/4 mile.

Obviously, this is a very broad question.....

I would consider 14's to be fairly fast, but I'm taking this in respect to all cars. 14's is good for a daily street car.

If it's quicker than my POS, it's fast.
If it's slower than my POS, it's slow.

On the street 11's are fast and at the track 9's are fast. If you can run 11's on the steet it's show you have put some work in your car and can compete with other fast factory cars (Z06, Viper, 03' Cobra). But its different stroy at the track because everyone has put alot of work in their car and the best built cars are the fastest. Of course some people would say that 12's on the street are fast, and they are, but 12's aren't gonna beat a Z06 with a few bolt-ons. It's a matter of opinion.

I was talking in terms of a street driven car. Anything that retains street trim.

I think 14.0 seconds and faster. I mean the newer Z28's and SS are frickin fast cars.

12.0 seconds and faster, being a street driven car is ***-like.

I think that a car would have to run 12.5 (or better) to be considered fast in my eyes.

I say this because there are so many fast (13 seconds or better) car from the factory today. Considering how bad the average fast car driver is (missed shifts, bad launch, & over/under revving), you can rest assured they won't run better than 12.5. Now if we are talking modified car, 12.5 is probably the times you need to run to be able to beat most other modified cars on the street.

When I say 12.5, I mean 12.5 on the tires used on the street and in the exact condition it is street driven in. So if you are talking 12.5 on slicks with race gas and interior gutted, you will be lucky to run 13.5 in strret trim - unless of course you run your race car as-is on the street. I can suggest some good head doctors if that is the case.

I think as far as a daily driver I would say 13.5 or better, and as far as a nice weather car, I would say 12.5 or better!

It also depends, if a guy puts tons of cash in supercharging, heads, cam and intake, and is running 12.5, I would think it was slow! Lots of variables!

I say a mid to low 13 is fast. But it also depends on mile per hour. For example 13.5@97 is damn quick but not fast.

Fast for the street I'd say is L98/5.0 area of around a 6 Sec. 0-60 and a low 14 1/4 Mile. I mean because if you're running low 12's and have like a 0-60 in about the high 4's, you're faster than probably about 90% or more of the cars you will meet driving around.

My goal 1 day, low 12's.

For the street:

High 14's/Low 15's: OK/Pretty good. Anything else is pretty slow for a performance car.
Mid 14's: Quick.
Low 14's: Fast.
13's: Faster than most.
12's: You're gonna win most of your races.
11's: You're FAST!! You might not even have to go WOT to win alot of your races.
10's And Faster: You should be at the track because driving on the street isn't that easy!! And if you're not, try finding a competitor!!

I think 9's in street trim is absolutely insane. My friend took me for a ride in his 95 TSi and it felt really fast, but it only ran a 14.9.

My goal would be 13.0 seconds or faster for a street driven car. That's enough to hang with the big boys (Z06, Cobra) and not be blown away. And with a little juice you can beat those guys too.

I think more in terms of type of vehicle although my fast mark begins at 14's. I say though that if you have a slower v8 like the lg4 or lo3 and get it into the 15's thats pretty fast for those cars (compared to stock). Like wise a 16 second 4door that weighs more than 4000 lbs is damn quick. So i do kind of sway a bit depending on what the car is and started out as. but 14s on the street is were the fast mark starts for me. (considering im still sitting in those oh so sad 16.5 or so 1/4 lo3 times)

for street cars...
....because I detest race-only cars.

I'm thinking if you've got a 13-second car, you're cool. 12's is the goal nowadays. With 12's, you can compete with most LS1's and Mustangs, and hang with the older dudes in the stock Z06es and the like. I hope to be in the mid-low 12's when I get my heads/cam/gears/stall done.

I agree with pretty much all the previous posts, but low 12's will beat all the new musclecars and sportscars right now even if they are modded usually.

For the track:

Mid 14's-Low 15's: Kinda slow.
Low 14's: OK, could be better.
13's: You're getting there/pretty good!!
12's: Now you're talking!! You have a fast car.
11's: Lets race!!
10's And Better: Whoo Hooo!! Incredible!!

ET isn't realy a good judgement of street car speed. I would go with mph. Most street runs don't go from a dig. A descent car to me is 11.40@117+ on motor. A fast car would be in the 120+ range. Plus most cars run different tires on the street. Last weekend I ran 12.03@116.90 on some 245 Kuhmo aquatreads. The car wieghs 3,650 with me in it. My converter is slipping 16% and I was getting valve float at 6,100. The cam makes peak power at 6,500+. With all that stuff fixed I should run about 124 on the motor. I still don't feel that to be very fast. But then again I can't go full throttle under 50mph. That does make it interesting. So I guess a street car that is capable of 10.90 on motor with traction would be fast to me. Elevens on motor is alright. My car is my daily driver.

N/A I run right around a 12.70. To me, it doenst feel fast enough yet. I definetly plan to keep modding.

Then again, I probably havent floored the car from a dead stop in a few months. You gotta have an empty, dry road when 100mph comes up so fast.

On the street, the car feels pretty fast on the spray.

If you're runnin' low 11's and better around here, your not fast, you're either DEAD or in JAIL. I guess some of yall live around the Salt Flats or something, because if you do anything that fast around here, there's a nice piece of oak whatin' on ya.

Once you hit the 13's around here, there's not a whole lot of people around to race. 13's will destroy most of the "tuned" (and I use that term loosely) Imports, even the ones on the bottle. There is the occasional Supra around that can do some damage, but they're few and far between. Most the guys I know who do drive ZO6's and the like, don't drive them like they could be; it's more of a status thing for them.

The only people around here willing to race are the Z-28/ GT guys and below. And by below I mean anyone with a Honda and coffee can exhaust.

Unless you live in ZO6 Land, 13's should take care of most people.

This varies with every person. Some places, a 13 second street car is fast. Other it's not.

IF we are talking about DAILY DRIVEN street cars. And by this I mean it's driven everyday ( cold winter locations are an exception ) , dependable enough to make a 500 mile trip without a backup / tow vehicle, and knocks down mpg in AT LEAST the low teens....

Then I'd say 11's is fast. 13's and 12's are respectable, but to me 11 would be the magic number.

IMHO

And yes that would mean, to me, my car is slow.....for now

Its kind of funny. Most of the people with fast(12 or less) say that fast isnt until around low 12s and the people with not as fast(13 or slower) say that 14s are pretty fast. I run low 14s and I think my car IS fast. I very much want my car in the 12s or faster but there are a ton of cars out there that I can beat by running low 14s.

I used to think 14 second cars were fast until I started driving a 12 second car 200 miles a week. Now I get in my girlfriend's GT and I'm just like "jeez, can't this thing go any faster." Same with my dad's mid 14 second LX, it's got no ***** either. On the other hand, I've been handed my *** by too many 11 second street cars to be naive enough to consider my 5.0 fast.

I think Nic hit the nail on the head.

There is no magic quarter mile time that makes your car feel fast. Its more a matter of what you are used to. When I first got my 98 the thing felt like a d@mn rocket ship...it ran mid 13's. After a few weeks of driving it every day its not as impressive.

I think this is the principle that keeps aftermarket parts companies alive.

After driving my buddies truck for a few weeks this fall my car scared the hell outa me.

Its always a better ride in the pass seat. Nothing to hold on to means you go straight back

Try having someone (you trust) take you for a ride in your car. It'll feel quicker.

Also, for a good ab workout, sit in the pass seat with the seat all the way laid back and try to stay upright when someone floors it.

me I have a modest buget and I would like to be in the mid to low 13s and I would be happy.

I think 13s is pretty fast on the streets. I mean heck, at the track they require you to wear a helmet, so you must be movin a little to need one

I think 12s would take out 98% of the cars on the street. Think of how many cars you see a day, sure you may see a few Vettes or a suped up Chevelle, but out of every 100 cars that may be 2 of them.

So, to me 12s is fast for the streets, 13s is movin.

I think 14.5 or quicker is fast for a regularly driven street car. Thirteens are average "me too" times for all us fourth gen owners, which seems to take some of the glamour from that number. However, trap speeds over the century mark are pretty damn fast if you ask me. When you get down to it, if you are pushed back in the seat under acceleration enough to alarm sane people, you're fast.
