My LT4 against a highly modded LS1
I wanted to post this as a separate post and see what everyone thought.
I went out to the 1/8 mile track but got there late and only got in 1 run. I ended up with:
2.17 60'
8.65 1/8
@84.4 mph
That is .1 secs faster than my 1/8 on friday, yet 1 mph slower, and I didnt even uncap the exhaust
Yet last night I went back to the 1/4 and ran a best of 13.1 @ 109 with a 2.00 60' and like a 8.44 1/8 @ 86.xx
Anyway, after I get back home I head down to the local hangout and after a while a black '01 WS6 rolls in. I'm talking to the guy and he had MTI Stage 2 heads, LS6 intake, X-1 cam, I think he said FLP longtubes, 3200 Vigilante stall in a built auto trans, a Moser 12 bolt with 3.73's, Nittos, oh yeah, and a TNT wet 100 shot. Then he asks me if I want to run for fun, I said sure, and jokingly asked if he was going to supply the vaseline as well. So we head out to the race spot.
First run: dead stop, I honk. no nitrous. He launches good, I bogged pretty bad, he jumps out ahead of me about a length. As we go through the run he slowly pulls out about 3-4 lengths ahead of me.
Second run: 40ish roll, no nitrous, first time I've ever kicked the rear out in third. We run up to well over 100. at the launch, I jump 1/2, he makes it up and pulls 1/2 on me. As I'm nearing the top of 4th, I'm VERY slowly pulling back up on him How does that work???
Third run: 20 roll. I get a perfect launch, he sprays me. pulls too many lengths to count. :hail:N20!!!
We talked a while when we got back and he said that he dynod 550/560 AT THE WHEELS on spray, he gained 132 hp on spray, and that he was only running a 100 shot due to a stock short block. He also said we were both ***** to the wall all three races, so he wasnt just playing with me on the second run. The reason he sprayed me on the third run was because he thought I sprayed on him on the second, which I didnt. Now I've seen plenty of wierd outcome street races, but this just astounds me. He should have straight up handed me my *** on a silver platter all three times because I am no where near 400 hp at the wheels, I would be very impressed if I had 400 at the crank. Yet I stayed within 1/2 a length well past 100! Wierd stuff. not that I'm complaining
I need to get mine dynoed and tuned correctly to know for sure, but I still can't believe that race.

If he's really got everything he says he does, he should've killed you. No disrespect man, you got a fu(kin sweet car. Low 13's is faster than I can do.
It may have come down to driver error, or he may have been launching gingerly because of traction problems.

NTChrist, no disprespect at all. I know he should've killed me. thats what was so crazy about it. And I dont see how it could've been driver error with an auto from a 40 roll. he said he would let it shift from first to second, then he would shift to third. I dont know though, it was still fun as hell!
thanks for the compliments too
*edit: oh yeah, and I'll try and get some photos up in the next few days, I took some before I went to the track the other day.

Nope, no lie. The guy that was talking to him before I raced him knows him well, plus he popped his hood and you could see some nice shiny new heads and long tube headers. And I've raced an '00 Trans Am with a 100 shot of nitrous and he didnt pull anywhere near the number of lengths on me this guy did. thats what still blows my mind about that race because he should have raped me a new one. oh well, I'm not complaining

If its not a lie, then he REALLY has some very serious problems. And also remember that all LS1 heads are shiny. Anyhoo, the combo you described should push around 400rwhp. I'd say thats good for a little better than 13.0 in a 3200lb car with decent traction.
Lets just say I'd pull a few lengths on ya from any speed...and I have stock everything. Only transmission mods (shiftkit/converter), catback exhaust, and an airbox. The car runs consistant 12.70's.
My car is not very fast for its mods where I live. Either your car is much faster than 13.0, or his is making much less hp than he claims.

Well the main thing with mine is that I've never had it dyno'd and I've never really been able to get a good launch to get a good time. going from the roll like that gets rid of the launch issues, and at the rpm I was at I would have been just getting into my sweet spot. The only thing I can figure is that the speed we went from was just out of his power band with the auto or something. Thats the only two things I've been able to come up with to explain it.
Also, I think 3200 is an optimistic weight for either car. Plus, he had a passenger, I didnt.

4L60E + 3.73 gears + 3200 stall converter = no dead spots.
I do believe you...its just that his car must have had major issues.
You definetly have enough MPH to run 12's, so its not like this is one of those "I killed a '03 cobra with my LG4" threads.
Get a decent 60' time and you'll be deep in the 12's. It might be worth it to pick up a set of ET streets or drag radials.

Doug

Well I know for a fact he was running pretty damn rich, I've never heard a car pop so much as when we were slowing down, and he's got Corsa exhaust, so I dont think it would pop like that normally. Plus, he said MTI tuned it so that when he sprays he doesnt have to worry about leaning out. Which I guess explains it fairly well.

ok, well that pretty much explains it then. he said he didn't shift to first, he just left it in second. Also, he dyno'd at 414/381 off spray, 549/553 on spray.
