If you see them again, and the road is curvy, show em your taillights. Most 5.0 mustangs can run like a horny bunny in a straight line, but get in the curves, and they get caught tripping over their feet. NOTE that I said most mustangs, but not all.

I just joined a club here in CT, and although most of the cars are 11-13 seconds, we do have a 9 second Drag Radial car making 800-900 rwhp (we will see on the 19 of April)! There are tons of Mustang clubs, and if not clubs, than just a bunch of guys cruising together!

Yes, our Mustangs do suck in the turns, but I am not one for racing around. I used to and it just was not fun enough for me! It would only cost me about $800 to have a wicked corner carver with the right suspension, but I prefer going straight!

I have even had trouble with that! On my 2nd run ever, the TV cable come out of the plastic peice and held the throttle bady at about 1/2 throttle. I didn't know until I was standing on the brakes and the car barely made the turn at about 25 mph! Thanks *** my brakes were good! No turns for me thank you!

Hey one of them was whining pretty baddly too... first i thought power steering pump low on fluid but THEN I saw the big GOUGE in the hood!

so then i realized IT WASNT the power steering pump making a whining noise, it was actually the AIRCLEANER brushing up against the HOOD thats why there was a big gouge in it!!

Hey, what's wrong with turning?

Am i the only Mustang guy working on suspension and braking mods when the rest are doing engine work?

I like turning. No better rush than entering a turn at 80MPh or so, cutting the wheel hard and having the car stay perfectly level and hold the corner perfectly.

There is a rotary/double S-turn near where i live that I LOVE to drive through. I get a HUGE rush in the turns.

I want to set up my car for some road-racing. I've gotten info of some local clubs that race informal races at the local tracks. I'd love to do a few laps in the stang. Just gotta prepare!

Hmm..i almost ordered Cobra 13" Brakes today..maybe i should reconsider

That was a lot of the reason I bought mine, its handling.
Granted the Sn95 cars are heavier, but they're more ridgid too. And the Factory 17s and strut tower brace didn't hurt either. I'm *HOPEFULLY* gonna Put on steeda sport springs, adjustable rear swaybard, and poly bushings this summer. Got a factory STB, SFCs might be next after that. And LCAs. Can't forget those. I wish the seats had more lateral support though, the 94 Trans am seats I used to have in my camaro I liked much better than the mustang leather seats. I've thought about selling the full set (The go for upwards of $500 on ebay) and getting some R1 seats.

I have owned both a modded Mustang and a F-Body. I can tell you our third gens drive handle, look and feel better. But those Stang's are cheap and fast. The engine in mine kicked ***. I should have pulled it and kept it when the rest of the car died. It was making about 350@the flywheel or so I was told by the previous owner. I do know that I gave his LS1 Camaro a run for It's money though.

The engine was fine. The body was crap. Little things used to break all the damn time. It had a horrible electrical system. That's why I sold it in the first place. The damn electrical system was shot. I went to start it one day and the dash lit up like the fourth of July.

Lets do it again!!!

J/K, the Mustang is a good car, but as far as handeling goes there is no question in my mind, the Fbodies own the Mustangs! Looks are pretty irrelevant because we are on an fbody site, and as far as feel, I have only ridden in a few and driven one 3rd gen, and it felt worse than the Mustang because it was very beat up! I personally love the Fbodies and wouldn't mind having one, but with the Mustangs being so cheap i have to settle for one now!

I like the Mach 1....nice to see Ford pays attention to the Mustang and offers special models instead of just pumping the same 3 models out all the time.

I ended up here in a crosspost where people were spilling the wrong information about the abilities of stangs. After hanging around a bit, the guys were cool and **** so i stayed.

Yes the Mach 1 is awesome with mid to low 13s at 104-106 already coming in!

As far as why I am here, is because my cousin has an 86 Trans Am motor and body on an 84 SE, and he lost his computer right before he got the car, so I was basically being a messanger at the bgining. Now I am on here because the guys who post here are really nice, and the info is good to use. Plus I am in no way one company biased. I like all American cars (some more than others) and will support any car!

I wouldn't mind owning a 3rd gen, but the cost is more than I want to spend and there aren't very many racing classes for them, like the 5.0 Mustangs have!

They are spiced up plenty, but you don't get a wide variety of buyers. The car is too biased towards one group of people. The Mustangs appeal from older women to younger guys. It is a sacrafice, as well as a benefit!

He actually sold that car a few months ago. The guys who bought it promptly ran over the tree coming off the line and smacked the wall. They then sold it and the new owner is in the process of fixing it back up to the level that it was at when Lee owned it.

With a little Suspension work, they handle! My friend had a 94' GT with the 5 point steeda suspension and a strut tower brace... thing handled awesome! I just don't like how in mustangs you sit so high up!

You'd hate my mustang then. My seats sit even higher than the stock ones. I'm real short, so any time I can be higher up off the ground I usually go for it

Mine sits higher too!

I drove a friend of mines Prelude the other day (I know, it's a Honda, but she wanted me to move it!) and that car is LOW! I felt like I was sitting on the ground! Much lower than any Fbody I have ever been in! Too low.

corners are for sissies
Wow, very naive drivers here!! Everything you see in modern muscle cars has come from some kind of road racing (SCCA, LeMans, Trans Am, Blah blah blah). Maybe its your (or yalls) lack of knowledge and insecurity with driving that is keeping you from the corners. I'm with mustang5L5 on this. ANYONE can drive a car in a straight line!! Try powersliding around a turn and keep control like CrazyHawaiian (or whatever his name is) (*note* this is not necessarily an element of road racing). I'm sorry but if it came down to which one took more ***** to do I'd have to say canyon carving. Don't get me wrong....I love to drag race, but road racing, more often than not, has the brighter and more brilliant of the car enthusiasts!

I'm just jealous because I can't afford to road race, nor could I endure the humiliation of getting slaughterd by miatas

I agree. I get more of an adrelanline rush when carving corners than in a straight line drag. I'm not saying drag racing doesn't take skill because it does, but road course racing is the ultimate combination of skill. You basically drag race in a circle!

I got to ride in a modified Porsche around a road course 2 years ago. OMFG what a rush it was. I have never felt the same feeling since but i come close when i hit a few Apexs around a few S-turns on highway onramps.

Hopefully after i finish college i can build my stang into a good road race car and get in some clubs and do a little racing.

I've drifted away from drag racing guys...sorry

I never said there was anything wrong with going around a corner fast, I just prefere straight lines. Saying that you are smarter for going around turns is a little biased don't you think! I could set my car up for turns, but I chose a straight line, because with my limited budget it is MUCH cheaper to go straight. I was going to go to Limerock Park this season, until I saw what was required to run there. With drag racing I just put my helmut on and run, with road courses I have to have too much equipent to just have a good time. No thank you, I will stick to being stupid and go straight!

LOL!! Does somebody feel singled out. Geez.

I'm also a poor college student. But thats were it ends. I learn to get around things and find different and more cost effective routes. Going out and buying everything isn't always the answer. Right now I'm in the process of fabing my own tubular a-arms!

I never said anyone here was stupid. Nic, Its cool. I was never hipped up. I just saw how everyone was putting down road racing. And yes Nic....miatas suck. My friend just stuffed one with a 396 small block though. I can't even tell you in words how badass it is.

Also....I didn't mean to say that going in a straight line is easy. Its not always easy. But Road racing takes MUCH more skill.

Well you being a poor college kid, think back to high school, and paying off 2 vehicles and insurance on a 5.0 and a Jeep! Now do you see what I mean by poor! I wouldn't mind going on a road course but not only is it expensive just to run, if I do crash the car or someone hits me, I am screwed! Drag racing costs me $20 and about $25 in gas and all I need is a helmut!

I was just giving an example of why I personally don't go road racing. I know it takes more skill, and I am sure I could do (I have taken a few turns fast), I mean anyone who has driven a stock suspension 5.0 through the turns will admit that takes some skill! I am not putting down road racing, it is just easier and cheaper for someone like me to go out and drag race!

Just like you stick up for road racing, I stick up for drag racing!

Plus I heard an interesting thing a while back.

"Road racers are hypocrites, all the talk about going through turns, when their whole goal in the turns is to make the track as straight as possible!"

I never said this and don't really believe it, but it still cracks me up! No hard feelings.

I get more of an adrelanline rush when carving corners than in a straight line drag.

You ever been in an 8 second camaro before?
anyone?

I tell you what. Take an 8 second pass down the 1/4 mile in a decked out camaro then tell me how much of an adrenaline rush it was.

without wheelie bars.

this is not directed at you Mustang5L5 but at anyone who thinks drag racing is not an adrenaline rush.

Sure 5.0, I can understand. I too love to drag race and go to the strip all the time (I probably have over 200 slips here with me at school). It only costs $5 at our local strip. Don't take offense to what I said. Besides, I doubt you are as poor as I am....trust me its nothing to brag about. Using that as an excuse just doesnt cut it for me. Its something I love, so I find ways to do it.

As for riding in an 8 second camaro......no. But I have been in 9 second cars and yes it was a rush. But no more of a rush than hauling around a turn at over 80 and watching the **** in your car start switching sides! LOL.

i think thats cool that mustang owners and f-body owners are getting along here. where i live, there seems to be some kind of bitterness bettween mustang owners and "chevy" owners. sometimes even resuting in fights(the phyiscal kind).

I have always gotten along with Fbody owners, because even though we choose different cars, we are all in the same boat. The only fight I have seen over cars was when two guys at a Mustang event fought each other. They were friends too! Just goes to show some people never grow up.
