25th vs 35th V6

I've got a who would win question. I've raced this guy before, we're good friends but lost contact now that he's in college and I'm a senior in highschool but the last time I saw him he said he wanted to "kick my *** from a dead stop now." My friend has a 2002 Camaro Coupe, w/only a K&N Drop in with the 3800 Series II engine. Last time we raced, he kicked my ***. It was from a 50mph rolling start though and around 80, he pulled on me hard and I heard that thing screaming and he went around me like I was doing 65 and he was doing 90. My only mods last time was my old Ravin Muffler, Dynomax highflow cat and big exhaust tips (good for 10hp each! ).

See my sig for my current mods and he still has the same setup. I've seen him smoke this 2002 sixer stang from a stop like it was nothing. His sixer camaro is pretty fast, yet i've been in the car with him when an LT1 with exhaust tore him up too. So what do you guys thing?

I think he still has you. You ought to do the ultimate tbi modifications, and I think headers are the next logical step. Then I think you'd maybe beat him but it'd be close. What gears do you have?

V6 performance option?? He pays 400 a month for the thing, but has really nice options in it. Dunno about the performance thing.

Damn, even from a stoplight he'll stick whack me good? Or will it take him over 1/4 mile to catch and pass me? They only have 220/lb-ft of torque and his car weighs more.

Oh - I have the stock 2.73 gears.

Damn. :hail: 3800 Series II:hail:

Ohh well, if he wants it I'll take the loss and come back when I get true-duals down the road, thats next planned for me.

How would I hold up against Dodge Intrepids? Anyone have any 1/4 mile figures on them? I know some that think a 3.2 ES or 3.5L R/T can kick my ***... I used to own a 93 3.5L and it was quick, but could never hang with a Grand Prix GT.

Also - why is the V6 able to barely beat me, still? With my mods I'm assuming I have around 185-190hp and around 270lb-ft. Plus aren't the thirdgens lighter than the 4th? I'm assuming its gears because he has an Auto. 200hp and 220lb of torque.. v me 185hp/265lb-ft and I'm lighter. Weird..

If his car has the performance option, which includes 3.42 axle ratio and LSD, your peak torque advantage is lost in your 2.73's. Also, the torque curve of the 3800 Series II is broader in the sense that it can maintain it over a longer rpm range, which means that it can stay in lower gears longer to further take advantage of torque multiplication.

damn 2.73 gears.. I vist my dad in Jacksonville about once every two months, so I would like to maintain the fairly decent mileage for that long I-75 to I-10 interstate drive. 3.23 is about the max I should go right? or 3.08?

3.55s or 3.42s are great on the highway.

i have to say, the 3.8 is a pretty stout little six, but i hope you could take him if you got some gears.

i have 323 gears in my 91 rs and i do some highway driving and its not to bad... .. one oth thing to rember when doing gears is if your going to change the converter at any point.. i have 2400 and 323 gears and its great for racing and the gears dotn totally kill millage either.

Until you swap out those TBI heads, I think you've plateaued. Headers will help, but you'll probably only be able to notice it on time slips.

This car is just going to get me through highschool and maybe the first few years of college. I'm sold on a Grand Prix GTP. So so many mods to do and so expensive. I'd rather start with a car that runs high 14's with a few mods.

Yeah, but it's wrong wheel drive.
What you really want to look for is anything out of the late '60s.

If you don't live in the rust belt you can probably pick one up for GTP price.

i think you will lose, but with a few mods u can win. My friend raced a 2001 firebird v6 in his 1989 firebird formula 350 and barely won by like a car length. You never know until you race though. good luck
