Just race him and find out, plus this needs to go on the street racing board. Moderator: can you move this?

He'll probably beat you if your car is stock, the dodge daytona IROCs had 224 hp and from the factory STOCK. They ran mid 14's. It's a TIII turbo 2.2L DOHC.

The Daytona Iroc R/T is the one that made 224hp. Those are pretty rare though, I think they only made like 500. The normal Dayton Iroc made around 200hp still enough to beat some 305's.

It's gonna take full exhaust (that includes headers), aftermarket intake manifold, better gears, and probably a better cam too. Run him from a stop if anything. And shut down early. DO NOT go from a roll. That's assuming you have a low output 150HP 305 (LG4).

PS - If you are going to ask who's quicker, you need to tell us a little more about your car. Auto, manual, regular low output 305, high output 305, any mods, get the idea?

If it is stock, then this will be a good race. He should be mid to high 15's easy stock. But if he has any mods, especially anything that has to do with the turbo, then you are gone. Definately race him anyway for fun and our own personal amusement though You didn't mention his car having anything on it, so I would like to know who won. Also, those cars have a serious problem with head gaskets, so maybe while you are racing, he will blow it and then you will have no problem.

I guess you didn't read any of the above posts OR know anything about the 2.2 turbo It is capable of high 14s with an average driver, and should go through the traps around 92-94MPH. Certainly a lot more than a mildly modded LG4 to handle.

Yea sorry Marc, I was thinking of my buddies n/a one. My other friend was going to buy one, but he never did. We did some research first, and it is a very fast car. The 4 cyl turbo kills the 6 cyl n/a by almost 2 secs in the 1/4mile. 84camaro, you could run with the 6 cyl, but not this one. Sorry about the wrong info before about the stock for stock thing. He has got you unless you do some serious work.

Those were the best Daytonas Dodge put out. Unfortunately, they are rare and were soon replaced by the 3.0 liter V6 Mitsu engine. Then they were discontinued.

The engine is a 2.2 liter 4 cylinder. The block is standard Dodge Turbo II (because of the improved coolant passages and stiffer block), but the head is designed and built by Lotus of England. It's a 16 valve head with tuned port runners, just like half of an L98. The engine is fed by a Garrett T04 turbo with a 0.52 A/R ratio.

At a stock 11 psi (intercooled of course), he is making 224 hp. However, they are very easy to modify for higher boost, and can easily take it. Those engine rev to about 7 grand, and if modified to 15 psi (the highest you can go before hitting fuel shut off), he'll be making around 270 hp.

The IROC Daytona weighs approximately 2800 to 2900 pounds, so it's a few hundred pounds lighter than a 3rd gen Z28. So the power to weight ratio should be approximately the same.

What you can expect is a crisper launch while he battles turbo lag.
But that won't last long. His midrange will be about as strong as yours, and his top end will be more powerful. So you've got to try to shut him down on the launch and hope he doesn't catch up too quickly.

Do me a favor and ask him how much he'd sell that thing for.
Gawd I'd love to have one. I'm putting one of those Lotus motors into my Shelby Charger, which is only 2230 pounds. But it still won't be as beautiful as an IROC Daytona!

You guys are blowing things out of proportion and scaring 84'Camaroboy.

The 224hp Iroc R/T, I repeat the IROC R/T didn't make production until '92 and are VERY RARE.

Here's the specs of the Daytonas through out the years.

I thought the 2.2 turbo started in 90 or 91. If it is indeed the 2.5 turbo, I think you would have a MUCH better chance. Again, run him from a stop, and try not to go much past 60.

Nice to see you won. Thanks for finally listing your car and mods The L69 is quite a bit more car than the LG4, especially when modded. We wouldn't have had much of a discussion if you had done that earlier. I would have guessed you as the winner, even with the 2.2 turbo.
