another what is.. modded L03 vs 92 5.0

ok guys, well lets see... i just finished my engine and a friend of mine has a 92 and a half 5.0 mustang convertable (addes 200 pnds.)... well he has gears... 3:73 and traction lock... Street tires.. he doesnt have a big problem with traction, but his shift linkage is messed and it instantly shifts at 3000 rpm... so he cant hold first..
here is my baby, 91 firebird 305 tbi, LT1 cam, tpi heads, chip full exaust, open element, just rebuilt the cheap way, (only piston rings, and bearings) no gears, and one wheels pretty bad b4 the rebuild, and now im still in my break in period... i need to finish tuning it ... but afterwards, do i stand a chance? i think it will be good, but i dunno, he claims stock his car is 220 hp and 300+ toruque.. and then add the gears im a little worried ive lost this one.. any suddjestions comments anything..

And... if he does beat me, it'll be ok, atleast my car looks better..

well not trying to rag on ya but he still probally has ya... this summer coming home from the track i caught a light with a 5.0... lets just say it wasn't pretty i got him bad out of the hole but after about 5 seconds the race was over... but you do have that rebilt engine.. who knows race him and post your results...no harm in trying anyway

I am guessing that this car is an AOD. With his mods he should be a mid to high 14 second car! If he puts the tranny in 1 it will hold 1st until you put it in D. You can also hold 2nd gear in these cars (I had the same tranny). Being a covt won't help, and the AOD is also a killer but he is on the right track with gears!

Actually stock he has 225 hp and 300 tq.

I think he will win. But that's no regular old 5 litre mind you. He's got that 4" bore funkaliscious. So dont feel bad hehe. A TBI L03 just won't stand up to a Ford 5.0 EFI. I think you're faster than most TBI L03's don;t get me wrong, respect for the work you have done. Just, stock for stock they start out making way more power, and since you're both modding... see where I'm going?

i'm gonna have to disagree with everyone on this. The 5.0 would definitely smoke a stock l03, but he's far from stock. I say with all your mods you will take him, but it will be close. By the way i would try to race from a roll since yo have the crappy 2.73 peg leg.

alrighty, well sence talking to some guys on the tbi board... ive used the stock manifolds which is choking everything down bad.... they said i might have 200 hp now... sooo.. after a pair of shorty hedders ill be pushing anywhere from 220-240, with 300+ torque... im not sure tho..

The peg leg is REALLY an issues, i just wanted to see how she did from a stop.. it was completely dry, and i cought a wheel through 1st, 3/4's the way through 2nd, and going into 3rd... (yes its a automatic) and from a roll i am pretty sure ill have it handed to me. Ive drivin his car.... and well i punched it going 40, and was at 90 in like... ohhhhh a second. ill go just for fun right now, i mean he can brag, but he has spent almost 12,000 on his car... i think my total bill is maybe 1200...

with the money im getting from selling my 1990 v6... ill buy the hedders, (ANY BRAND U RECOMMEND???) get my interior the way i want it, get the fender and gfx that are screwed... and maybe if have some money left over ill go ahead and get my gears... im gonna go 3:23 posi. (of course) i still have to get a little gas..

There's no way he's running any faster than low 15's.

What's the point in racing him with his TV cable out of adjustment? I'd advise you to advise your buddy to get that fixed asap before he ends up having to put a new transmission in the car.

AHH the TV cable! The cause of our 87 GTs AOD to die, and my car to get stuck at 1/2 throttle at the end of the track! He needs to fix the TV cable if it is the problem. We had to replace a whole tranny because of this stupid little part!

What he said.

What's the point of racing if his car isn't running 100%?? That's like you racing with a spark plug pulled. SHifting at 3000RPM is not good.

Tell him to fix his TV cable ASAP or he will be putting a new tranny in his car.

Well... here is the fun..

He kept pissing me off, so we dicided to go, Well it was raining, and went from stop... Off the line we both spun bad!!! he hooked WAY before i did got like 10 cars, then i started to pull just a little, maybe 3 cars because he spun going to second, then i pussied it into second, and he got another 2-3 cars... when i shifted into 3rd i lost it.. went almost completely sideways, got control back, but backed way off... scared the **** outa me.... my v6 couldnt do that.....

I know this is going to sound imature, but go look at my post at the TBI section.... my car is running kinda ****ty, and it has a bad electrical problem or.... the O2 sensor is dead, so im getting a new one tomarrow.. once i get my car running good we gonna go on a dry day.. i think i can get withing 2-3 cars of losing not that misirrable 15 he had last time...

Anyways now he thinks he is Mr.badass... any sudjestions on how to make him feel like an ***??

OH YEHHH!!!!!! his TV cable was fixed.. he got it done a couple days ago... thats a good reason for the murder..

after the o2 sensor, im getting hedders, any other sudjested mods?? i need to kill him ... im thinking if hedders and intake dont do it... here comes a 100 shot...

The headers and intake will definitely help, but he should not have beaten you that bad, 15 car lengths is a lot!!!!!!!! There is either something wrong with your car or there is something he is hiding about his. I think you need some gears and posi man!

First off, why race when the conditions are bad, and your car is running bad? That is a losing situation no matter what because whoever wins doesn't show which car is faster. For example, my Jeep would beat most Mustangs or camaros in the rain yet is slower than them!

As far as your mods what you said should help out a bit and bring you right up to him on a dry day!

yeh i really lost that bad b/c my car is running like ****, and it was really just for sh*ts and giggles.. just to see what would happen. i guess ill get the hedders and see how it goes...

First off tho, i need to get whatever is wrong fixed... My mechanic friend told me to take it to an electric shop b/c he had no idea...
Thats not good if he doesnt know... sigh... so im thinking its gonna hurt me about 200 bones to get the unknown mystery problem fixed....

if u wanna give advise, here is what it does... runs fine till warmed up.. then stalls out when i need to come to a stop.... also the check engine light comes on but after it stalls, and i cut it back on... no more light, i have to wait a few more mins....

i did a o2 sensor, thats what everyone told me to do.. it runs smoother, but still same problem.. *sigh*

Maybe your idle is too low and it gets too low and dies. I had that problem on my Bronco for a little while.

Of course mine was an L98 motor,but, I picked up 4 tenths in the quarter with crappy autozone 1 1/2 headers and cleared cat. So I would say definitely get the exhaust man.

Ahh well lets see.. where to begin

All i did was fix the egr valve and get a k&n air filter and we went from a dead stop.... i said go, but of course my reaction time was slow... anyways. he got a car.. (he claims 2) but i could almost tap him... and we stade just like that till about 100.... i was soooo happy....

yeh its kinda funny, he wanted to go even tho i think his torque conver died.... i think it has a thrown bearing... its whining like a supercharger.. LOL did that effect it?? he said he cant feel a power difference?

once i get my hedders, i think i can take him without a problem
