listen up,
saying that you can get a full bodied honda civic (gutted or not) into the 12's without spending a TON of money is assanine. In most cases you have to spend a lot of money getting a RWD v8 car that has some power already into the 12's. Besides the fact that a stock transaxle wont stand up to that kind of power, nevermind the halfshafts....your probably looking at 3-4 grand right there......now lets talk about what you have to do to an engine that small to make that kind of power.....
see what im getting at here? it can be done, but not cheap, and not by idiots....and certainly not by anyone with any taste

I've seen those funny looking super charger type things on the cars, they have tiny fans on the drivers side. Seen it on TV. I'm sure it costs a lot, but probably just like domestic ones. However I don't think it has as much affect, unless it produces +100HP, in which case they would have to spend more on just to get it to handle that.

those things rule.... plan on getting one myself and the stock setup should bump me up another 60-70hp
not much but will have a better torque curve and easily upgraded

take a third gen, stock any sh*tbag 305 package you want, with a 700r4
spend 4000 on a zz4, 150 bucks on gears, and few bucks on a good torque converter few hundred on tires......12's easy
an LS1 car, probably just some cash for tires and lid.
You cant come anywhere close to that money with ANY fwd car. period

Lessk: The imports i do have respect for is the supras and 300 zx's 3000 gts and the cars that with a few mods can really move. The import scene here when I live is 75% **** and then there are the real imports that ls1 owners have 2nd thougts racing. Those are some of the few imports I resect, not the apc sporting civics, i hate them as much as you all but there are cars I feel deserve respect and seperation between the **** in our eyes. Thats all im trying to say.
I have never seen a fast civic, there just arent any around here and if this guy accually gets i nthe 12's i will have respect for that becasuse it could kill 90% of the cars around. I guess we'll see.
I will be sure to post his results when they come in. I dont think it is gonna be this weekend unfortunatly, we are getting another foot of snow

Well, I found a big list of imports and non of them are over 200 hp. Theres a integra with 197 at 11.0:1 compression ratio....
The thing is with these cars, its not really that hard to take an american engine and take it to 500+ hp naturaly aspirated.
Give me a 427 Side-oiler and I can beef it up to 800 HP....my dad's 65' Galaxy had 925 rwhp on the dyno. Can you see an import doing that? I don't think so.
The bottom line is, they can't beat American muscle when it comes to a deep pocket, we will always triumph. Look at drag cars.

Yeah, but Supras are rear wheel drive. Or are they AWD?
I've got some movies of some Typhoons and Syclones stomping claimed 800HP Supras. T's and S's are turbo AWD.
But the FWD cars are no match when it comes to equal amount of money spent in the right places.

I will agree with you there, the imports i respect are rwd and that does set them apart. I really dont know why i am standing up for them... i drive a camaro and I am all about american cars, I just think twice before racing a supra of rx7. And you do have to admit that skylines are pretty sweet cars, I admit I like some of these imports just not riced out. im done talking about this
Heres a site with import drag racing. Here from one day on many races, and I quote
And with pictures of these cars, I asure you, these are full out, 100% drag race, not street legal cars.....and mid 9 is it.....Hey John Force ol buddy, want to show them how its done?
The fastest time for the day was a 9.53 @ 133mph

cars into the 9's with import can be streetable but most run huge *** turbos rather then big cams and lots of displacement that way they can still drive them on the street
9's seems to be about the max right now though for a street driven import and those are not all that comment even domestics don't seem to be that common yet a little more so then an import

we all know they can be faster without the cage and fiberglass body but some people just build them that way

also, claiming that its SLIGHTLY more common to have street driven 9 sec domestic cars than imports is a gross understatement.
i would venture a guess that 1-5% of fast street cars can go that fast, less than 1% of the 9 sec capable cars are imports.

dude from what I udnerstand from one of the guys I know living over there on military duty is that a 10 second street car is not all that uncommon
500+hp domestics (well for them domestic for us import) are fairly common.
and here is the kicker to them most hondas aren't worth tuning. the real cars are the 240s,300zx,rx7,supra, skylne, and such... not a honda

I don't know about the other people readin this, but it seems to me you're going to defend them no matter what. Maybe your "knowledge" isnt as accurate as it seemed. It just looks more like an import buff trying to say how awsome these cars are, when theres very few that are fast for a reason.

You're damn right I'm against these cars. But history shows that these cars are no match for domestics, even cars that weigh a ton more can slaughter these things. I don't see why people bother trying to make something that can't compete.
Atleast with me defending domestics like musclecars I have something to back it up.

while i dont share the amount of animosity that Lessk has,
im really sick of the people that claim the numbers are equal as far as imports and domestics running a certain time.
at NED and lebanon valley in NY its domestics taking the win by about a 25-30:1 ratio.
there are NOT as many fast imports as there are fast domestics.

my point was that from the way the post was going, everybody was making fun of a civic running 12's. trust me guys, i know what r*ce is, i come from the r*ce capital of the world!!
what i am saying is that a lightweight civic hatch with a gsr swap, a 60 shot, slicks, and probably intake, header, and exhaust like the rest of them, is capable of hitting 12's.
h22 will dyno 178whp
75 shot zex will dyno 70whp
IHE will net about 12whp
260whp-about 310hp in a 2,000lb car should go 12's, but fwd is a bitch to get times out of IMO

also, i wanted to add this in
i am not a fan in any way of most imports. i would not drive a honda. my point is that all of you guys are quick to jump on a car running twelves because it's a civic. but there are civics out there running twelves. that car could probably beat at least half the cars on this board. if you run faster than a 12, good for you, but i for one think that a 12 second car, regardless of where it was made, should be respected.
so all i'm saying is don't talk sh*t about something you don't know about.
now, if you've personally seen this car and you know it's a stickermobile, then fine, but i haven't heard from anybody that has yet...

Ultimately...they're just cars. No reason to get mad. No, the thing that gets me mad is the putting down of my choices. The bashing of my particular tastes. The challenges do not hurt me, but insulting bs does. You should all know what I'm talking about. Here's the difference:
CHALLENGE:
>Honda driver: Hey, nice car, what you got done to it?
>Me: Thanks. Looks like you've put a lot into that Honda. I've got.....(list of mods)
>Honda driver: Hmmm. Sounds powerful. Wanna race?
>Me: Sure.
Race follows. I win or he wins, whatever. In both cases, this guy is a civilized, respectful, safe-driving young gentlemen. That's the people I ENJOY racing. By the way, don't have this conversation at the lights. They'll change several times during the duration of the conversation. May want to summarize. OK. This will sound MUCH MUCH MUCH more familiar...
INSULTING BS:
For this a situation much be set up to explain it...
setting.......Taco Bell. A group of clowns of the domestic and imported gere are at Taco Bell...for once, right?
Anyway, up comes the Crown Victoria. Let's say I've got the engine and transmission done and I decide to take this light duty race cruiser out instead of the Cutlass. (keep in mind-this is a futuristic situation.)
I pull in, park, get out, hoping I'll get a Taco with food in it that hasn't already made one or more trips through the digestive system...and I notice that the group is looking my way and laughing. I do that most common thing that REAL tuners do. Disregard them. That gets them irrate since what they want most in the world is attention--just look at their cars...so the leader of the team...and it would be a team..."Team X" or something of that nature. He approaches me and jumps into my path...
>Clown: What the hell have you done to your grandma's car?
>Me: (knowing I could swat this skinny pothead like a bug, I don't let that anger me. I've had the car for years and I've heard it all anyway.)What?
>Clown: What'd you got that loud exhaust on that big mother****** for? It's slow as s***...
>Me: (At this point, his tone starts to offend me. Should I kick his ***? Or race him? Race him then kick his ***? If I kicked his *** beforehand, would he still want to or even be able to race? The questions abound, but as some of you know, **** talkers sometimes back it up. I must be careful.) Uhh, it's not slow.
>Clown: It's a piece of s***, man. Anybody's car over there could smoke it.
>Me: Well, you're over here. What about yours?
>Clown: Man, my car runs 12s.
>Me: Really? (he said with untameable sarcasm.)
>Clown: I'll race your ***.
>Me: Let's go.
Ok. a number of things to be pointed out. In some cases, he wouldn't have challenged and if he had of been challenged, he would have ducked out, still talking crap.
After the race, I kicked his *** in this little fictional story, of course....a number of insults, gestures and continued bs follows.
The difference between a tuner/friendly race and a dirtbag clown car driver.
Sorry for the long post. And what the hell do you people mean by not responding to my last post?

I'm a little late with that last post...I see you guys are talking about Japanese cops now. Damn. You know, a fat Japanese cop could actually be a threat. He could be a sumo. Over here they're just heartcases. You want to comply with them or they may die and cause you to get charged for it. That's happened around here somewhere...Guy ran, cop ran, boom. Down he went. Sad thing, my father died of heart problems, but to charge the crook?
Damn, I ramble.

ok let me ask you
do you think your car would last in japan?
as a matter of fact do you think half the cars on this board would last over
you preach so much about how they can't challange a domestic but do you really have any experience messing with them? sure max power domestic can run 4's in the 1/4 but that is not something to drive on the street. and taking something into the 7's as some "Street" cars have done but that's not really something everyone can do. anymore though to get a car to run fast import or domestic can do it..... please if you don't know things about imports don't bash them. you say you have truth to back up your domestics but do you have any proof to bash imports?
here we go what is it you even drive?
blackbird
one thing you don't take into account is you think of only NED 383. you are taking a car away from it's home ground and then say that they have no numbers to them. sure even if you take japan and add there fast cars into the amount you also have to think about how long the americans have been doing it. they have had more time to get numbers together

at NED and lebanon valley in NY its domestics taking the win by about a 25-30:1 ratio.
there are NOT as many fast imports as there are fast domestics.

Anyway what I'm trying to say is that I encourage you all to be cool to other car guys that are respectful and not be the guy we hear about all the time who flys by after they lose/win giving the finger laughing at the other persons car. In the end we're all interested in the same thing, whether it be import or domestic we're all car guys and should respect one another because there ARE stock looking imports running good times with minimal amounts of money invested. First generation DSMs are notorious for this
I wouldn't even go to japan in the first place, so I sure wouldn't take a car over there.
I'm done with posting in this thread. We have the guys who believe imports suck, we have the guys that think they're cool, and ones who are neutral. Yeah, we're getting somewhere quick. This is a topic that is discussed about all the time, and somebody on either side tries to make their point. But we all are mind set. So lets drop it.
I know there are some fast ones, I don't recall saying there wasnt. I did however say very few, for a good reason.

that's not true. did you even read my other post? i never said civics are cool. actually, i think for they most part they're ugly and slow. HOWEVER, there are some civics out there that deserve respect. some people actually put hard work into their cars.
until you see this guy's time slip saying he doesn't run 12's, don't talk sh*t. that is my point.
i used to think the same thing about imports, until i opened my eyes

I found a little bit more about this car, it has a good many upgrades and very wel may be in the 12s. I was suprised and I have a feeling i am going to loose my $50. Ill keep yo uall posted, wow this tread has had a lot of posts in 2 days, amazing the things posting a question about a civic can bring up
One more thing. The car doesnt deserve respect, the person who built it and racest it like a civil person deserves respect. And I mean a real import tuner, that you can sit down and talk with. Not the r!ce burners...I don't care if they do have a fast car, they don't deserve respect. The same goes with jerks driving domestics.
The person makes or breaks the car...and sometimes literaly breaks the car. Some people shouldn't race.

my brother who i have disowned, and not joking here, has a newer civic hatchback with a stock GSR i saw his time slips, mid 15's and a trap speed of like 96mph i think it was, with 60 shot im guessing low 15's
my brother still thinks that his car will take mine on the strip and IN THE CORNERS i just laugh and leave him behind
ps
3 days ago i finally got tired of him talking trash about my car and american cars in gernal, i told him to shuddap or i would bust him in his lip, im 16, and about 175lbs all muscle from working out for the past 4 years, he is 21 and about 350lbs from never working out in his life, we are the same hight,
he says one more thing in my face, "Chevy's are slow and will always see my taillights", i laughed and gave him a nice lil jab into his lip, broke his tooth and made him cry, and told him "the only time that we will see them is when you pull that gay *** ***** fly by when we are turning off the road we were just on or ahead of us at a light."
and walked away, it was funny as hell to see the looks on his friends faces.

I could never really see myself busting my bro in the lip for talking crap about my car.... lol... but then again I'm the oldest of six and the age list is as follows:
19- Me
13- Stephen
7- Caleb
4- Benjamin
3- Joshua
Almost 2- Rebekah
And they all love big brother's car.

this has got to be one of the most ridiculous arguments ive ever heard......first of all i know there are not nearly as many racing venues in japan....and the hype over there is probably just as bad as it is here. EVERYONE has a 10 sec car, didnt you know that?
its a population just like in the US, its also a highly industrialized country just like the US....if you took a random sample, i bet youd find that cars over there are about the same as they are over on a percentage basis as far as 1/4 times go.
secondly, RX7, you've never been to japan so cut it out

I seriously doubt that there are NEAR as many performance cars, tuners, or even enthusiasts ANYWHERE in the world...as there is the US and Canada. That's a guess. I could be wrong. You find a picture of a busy city in nearly any other country...what do you see?

Generally cars used for destinated commuting only. I don't know. I'm going to do some more checking around. I know they're pretty wild in Brazil. I once saw a clip of a modded old Beetle in Brazil. Flying, doing 360s, burning tires. The guy in the passenger side was showboating the crowd. They did a final HARD 360 and the Beetle started to flip. The passenger was hanging out of the window at the time. Beetle flips, he falls out...1800 lbs of Beetle...

I should be a professor of..."Street Race..ology..."
Anyway, that was some proper ettiqute up there. I'll point out several things.
1) In the case of the "CHALLENGE"...Notice that I did not compliment his car. In some cases, it would be a lie, wouldn't it? But I gave him a compliment anyway about his work WITHOUT giving the impression that his car hurt my eyes. As a matter of fact, I used no insults either time.
2) I didn't kick the guys ***.
3) I didn't start with him, he started with me.
4) I didn't even call him "BS".
True, that was a fictional story. But that's how I deal with things. I don't know how much garbage I've heard "Double-Time Dan" shovel out. That's a bs-er passing friend of mine. The phrase "double-time" is included because, every car he had you could ask a 0-60, 0-100, top speed, and 1/4 mile time. Every time, you would have to "double it" to get the realistic account. Except his speed which needed to be divided by 2. hp and torque was the same way--divide by 2. I don't think I EVER nailed him back for some of the crap I put up with. I've seen him in two different cars. Both Hondas. Coincidence? I could have guessed it.

INWO thank you for what you just said. it has been the point I have tried to make many many many times on this board
we are all here for the same thing.
I'm glad to have you as a ****.... i mean mod
