1992 3.1L top speed?

1992 3.1L top speed?
i've got a stock 1992 3.1L, the speedo goes up to 120 and i've gotten it up to 115 with the needle still moving up, but the car was shakin pretty bad. guess my engine was starting to get pissed with me. any idea what the top speed on a stock '92 3.1L V-6 is? just curious....

i've had my 3.1 to almost 120(more like 115 or 116) once. But i had a perfect smooth ride. If your car is shaking, i would get the front end checked out. Don't want to fubar yourself.

mdformula - not sure what the rpm's were at...back at home we have a 3.5 mile straightaway that has a divider on the left and guard rails on the right with no emergency lane, so no place for cops to sit, and i doubt one would be going fast enough over 115mph that'd they catch up enough to see me. (guess it'd kinda suck if your car broke down on that stretch of road...you'd be a sitting duck in the middle of the road
). i'm up at colege now though and the only straightaway is the highway but i'd be scared takin my car that fast on there..cops are way strict here. anyway, i don't remember what the rpm's were

Not sure but aren't V6's and the TBI V8's have a governor around 115MPH???
Im pretty sure the V8TBI's do but not so sure on the V6's??
You should check on that other wise top speed is 115mph!!

if its totally stock ...should have a governer...
u need to change the chip to fix that...
most likely the VSS doesnt work good at that
speed.....the accuracy of the speedo's go bad
beyond a point.....
but ive had mine over 120...and mine doesnt
shake even a bit...in terms of the engine...but im
heavily modded..and an almost new tranny
though im wondering if u have an auto..and try
to floor it ...the car wouldnt shift to 4th ..there is a
stupid 4-3 downshift valve that wouldnt allow the
car to stay in 4th @ anything more than 3/4
throttle...(in other words full throttle upshift 3-4
is nearly impossible in non IROCS /GTA's or
unless u have a shift kit...with teh upshift sleeve)
so at almost redline in 3rd gear (drive) u should
be just over 100....if u have a 3.42 rear end...

The 3-4 shift is a problem with ever 3rd gen 700R4 the only ones tat don't have it are the vettes, it is valve that you can change do a search the part is cheap to replace and it give you that 3-4shift in WOT.

It depends on a couple of things, auto or manual? Flat ground or downhill
? I've had mine over 120, I would guess around 130-135, but that is with a T-5 and a slight downhill grade. I'm not really sure in an auto on perfectly flat ground. I think the top speed is aerodynamically limited though, so it the cars drag would equal the power the engine is putting out.

It's an automatic....and when I had it to top speed I had it floored, and I don't think it switched back to third gear. I think I would have noticed if it did, and everything seemed normal so I think it stayed in fourth. Oh, and it was on level road.
back with my 2.8 and now with my 3.4 i broke my govenor... how i dun know...
but i've done 130 with both 6s
i know cuz of the prelude next to me... hehe...
i remember hearing it was 118 for the limitor to kick in...
