'92 RS vs. '96 Mustang V-6

Ok, I have a '92 RS w/305. 180,000 miles engine rebuilt around 10,000 miles ago. Recent tune up splitfire platinum plugs and 8.8mm wires. the tranny was rebuilt around 20,000 miles back. The mechanic said he put "special high performance parts" in it. I believe it was a shift kit cause it shifts a hell of alot harder.

My brother has a '96 V-6 Mustang with high flow cats and Flowmaster duals, cold air intake and underdrive pullies. His is an automatic also but it pulls pretty hard. He has been wanting to race me ever since I got the car (2 months ago) but I dont want to race him unless I know I can win. I could never live down losing to a V-6 or a mustang especially both rolled into 1.

With the mods in my sig. do you think I can win, and one kinda times do you think i would run?

Thanks,
Steve

No offense, but a 96 V-6 Automatic the slowest model SN95 built.
That car would be lucky to break into the 16's. I just found the comment "pulls hard" funny when referring to a 96 V6

I think you'll win though

It will be close, but I think you just might edge him out towards the end. Just a guess, he has some good basic mods and you are pretty much stock. Slap an open air filter on your TBI and give him a run - the filter will free up some moderate power.

Dont sweat it man. I have a 91 LO3 305 tbi firebird stock , and i slap my friends 96 mustang v-6 around. the best time he ran was a 17.5 but the kid cant drive. he had a 1.2 reaction time, when mine was .6 i pulled a 15.8. that was in 40 degree weather, and no airfilter, iced intake. and everything taken out of my car. I doubt any LO3 gettin into the 15's again. Personally i dont think i could do it. If its modded itll be close but i say go for it. U should win

you do know reaction time has nothing to do with your actual time right?

i think you are going to win SFX099, anyway there's nothing wrong losing to a smaller engine car.

my brother can most likely beat me in his turbo 4 cyclinder ford, and i have gotten beaten by grand nationals all the time..

kinda defeats the desire to race for me if I KNOW I'm going to win

and whats the problem with losing to a v6 or a mustang?

there is no shame in that

Turbo 2.3l's and GN's are completly different they were both built to be fast with good economy. V-6's Mustangs on the other hand were built for ******* that didn't want the power or economy of a GT. If I lose to my brother there is no way in hell he will ever let me live it down. Until I get my 350 and wax his ***.

Thanks for the replies guys,
Steve

When I said economy of the GT I was actually referring to the poor economy as compared to the 6. Also I am not gonna get an L98. What I am wanting is a 70's 4 bolt 350, I will be rebuilding with 10:1 pistons, GMPP fast burn Vortec heads, Edelbrock Performer RPM Air-Gap intake, Harland sharp roller rockers, Crane 278 Hyd. Roller cam and a 750 holley. By the way, how much power do you think that will make?

dude u should take him. I have yet to lose to a mid 90s mustang v6
i've lost to a 2000 back with my 2.8

it might be close i dunno.
i've beaten 2 305 tbis(the only two i raced)
one at high speed back with my 2.8
and one at 0 not too long ago with my 3.4

i still think u should take him tho.

The mid 90s V6s were total dogs! They had about 140 hp and weighed about 2900-3200 lbs! They were definately not performance cars!

What is wrong with losing to a Mustang. I would have no problem losing to a Camaro or Firebird and definately no problem losing to a TTA (I know it isn't even comparable to a V6 Mustang). I would rather lose against an Fbody and have a good run than race any form of ****, even if I kill it!
