1991 Firebird vs. 92 3000gt

I'm in high school and I'm a senior. This Junior just got his liscence and is talkin so much trash he asked me to race. I have a 91 firebird LO3 305 TBI auto. He has a 1992 Mitsibishi 3000gt SL its a V-6 3.0 liter, I think its a DOHC too and auto also without the turbo. He says hes pushin 225hp, and I know my birds got about 190 but I got about 260 ft/lbs torque. Anyone got any info on how much torque this **** has? I dont wanna be to confident, its gonna be a good race. I think I might be able to take him. Should i start talkin smack? Who will win. If u find info on the GT tell me how much torque, and the site u got the info from.

Beware ...

My brother just got a Dodge Stealth V6 ( same engine as the Mitsibishi 3000gt, also I think the same year too). Anyways those cars are very light and have very fast take offs. I test drove it (thank goodness there were no cops around when I did) I was hitting 40 mph in nothing flat and still in first gear.

I think they have roughly about 200 or so trq. 225 is too much for an SL, if I am thinking right. I know the base are a joke, like 160 hp and less trq. I think that it might have 215 or so hp. But, that is in a heavy as hell FWD car, I think like 3500-3600 stock. I think they run high 15's if I am correct. I think that LO3 run high 15's or so stock, somewhere within that range. I would suggest you do the "Ultimate TBI Mods" in the Tech Articles. Will help you quite a bit, do a tuneup, umm, a cai, slap on some SLP headers and a nice cat-back exhaust and you will win. Stock for stock I would say you would get him out of the hole cause of RWD and trq. From a roll he would probally win. GL.

He could have 222 hp at 6000 rpms and 201 ft pounds of tq at 4500,I think that was the middle engine avaliable for those cars.If hes got the 160 hp engine you should take him easily.otherwise it will be close. since he just got his license maybe he cant drive.

it'll be a good race
i raced a n/a 300zx
and it has about the same numbers as the 3000gt
and i hung in off the start but was overwhelmed by its hp

u'll definitely hang in longer cuz u have more torque than i do...
but don't race him off a roll
he'll be u...
trust me...

What mods do you have there, Camaro68Vette63? You mention 190hp like you have some mods...

With the auto there is virtually no way he is in the 15s. Not enough torque to get these base models to perform without a manual tranny. He's slow as hell. But then again, I would say there is no way in hell you are in th 15s either if you're stock/near stock with an L03 auto. Should be close race. Get some mods damnit, these hosers shouldn't be running with any V8s. There oughta be a rule somewhere, lol...

Those cars are not light at all. they are about as heavy as thirdgens if not a little heavier. I think you will lose but it should be a close race.

3000 GT's

Hey, I am almost certain what I have to say is true. Before I bought my first car (94 TA GT) I came so close to buying a 3000GT. Anyway, as always, I did extensive research on these, and from what I've learned, all 3000GT's, either base or SL had the 222 hp DOHC's. The VR-4's had 300 Hp. The only differences between the base and the sl were small, such as automasted climate and stuff, but the engine's were the same. As for stealth's, they're a completely different story. Anyway, I test drove a '93 SL, and although it wasn't slow, it was nothing compared to the TA I bought. It's not that fast from a start, but once it gets moving, it can move. And, yes...they're very heavy.

Sorry guys but the 3000Gt got me by like 2 car lengths up to 80 both races. It turns out its a 95 not a 92, and it was a clean car. Looked brand new. Sorry if I let ya down. I also took it to the track and ran a 16.6. Alright for a stock car.

I'm going to say this but not as an insult... but rather something to motivate you to get your car moving faster and do the f-bod guys proud

my little 80ci motor would win against you

I have raced a few 3000GT SL's before and they have been my easiest kills. They do have 222HP but they have low torque and are pretty heavy cars.

Back with my car was stock running 14.6-14.8, I had one try to race me on the way home from the track. I had 3 people in the car and he was with 1. I think they had their girlfriend's following in another car. Anyway it was so easy to pull away from that car it was a joke. All i had to do was roll on it and i'd just pull away.

It's even easier to beat them off the line. FWD + heavy weight + low torque = slow off the line.

Then again, not sure what your car runs so i can't tell if you would win or not

I raced 2 SL's, hook up good & don't race from a roll and you'll go home with some extra cash in your pocket

Don't get me wrong but my car is 170 horse. I really would like to see some one take a 1995 3000gt sl with any stock TBI 305. It can not be done sorry but a stock 305 TBI wont break the 16's and a 3000gt is in the high 15's. A TPI would definitley take it. They run mid 15's.

I got a chance to drive a twin turbo stealth a little while ago. I didn't get a chance to try 'launching' the car, but in normal driving, the engine feels like it has no torque. I think you would have to be very aggressive to get the car to really launch hard - not at all like a V8 where one can just hit the gas at 1500 rpm and take off. The twin turbo engine does make plenty of torque, just not down low where it would help make the car easier to drive.

I raced a VR4 on a quarter mile, man that guy just rev to about 5k then just drops the cluth and your jaw drops. Then u think oh my *** what just happened, but i stayed on the gas and started pulling hard on him and ended up about dead even at the finish line. So in the quarter mile i think u gota plenty of time to catch up. In a street race or 1/8 mile u lose without slicks.

Oh and somthin else ended up one of my employees is this guys good friend said the other night he destroyed a 2002 corvette in the 1/8 mile corvette had a lot higher trap speed but he didnt get there first
