89 GT VS. 87 IROC- whaddya think?
A kid at my school has just bought 89 mustang. All stock expect for exhuast and 4.10 gears. Its a 5spd. I think I can take him in a quarter because he tops out at 85 mph with those huge gears.
anyway, he will be reading these responses so be very helpful with your comments please. Thanks.

He shouldn't top out at 85, he should be able to run to at least 100. Oh well, sucks for him. Yeah, I don't see why you shouldn't be able to upset the little ford boy a bit. Go for it.

He should have a legit high 13 second car if he can drive at all. Those gears are perfect for him, should have him going through the traps right past peak hp. Also, depending on how tall of a tire he's running, he should be topping out in the neighborhood of 115 mph in 4th gear. Where'd you get that he tops out at 85?

Nic, you seriously think he is going to run a high 13 with just gears and flowmasters? Come on now man! I have a 92' 5.0 and with Flows and a new king cobra clutch I ran 14.92. I dont see how 4.10s are gonna knock off a whole second especially since he probably cant drive his new car, and he will probably spin more from the 4.10s and it doesnt mention him having drag radials.

I didn't say he'd win, but like I did say "he has a legit 13 second car if he can drive at all."

I think you need to read what mods he has. He's got the stang I think. If all he has is gears and catback exhaust then there is no way in hell the stang will run 13's. He says he beat a 2001 GT, and if that is true then he's got the stang in my book seeing as the 2001 GT prolly runs low 14's.

Well given the mods in your sig, I would think you would be able to run at least high 13's with good traction and driving. I think you can take the 'Stang but the potential to be a good race is there.
As far as high 13s for the Mustang, with 3.55s, cat-back, and pulleys I have seen a 1991 Mustang run 13.6 with tires. On street tires it was a high 13 second car, so Nic is right there!
As far as hitting only 85 that is a joke because in 4th if he runs right near the rev limiter he could hit a little over 110.
As far as pulling till 6200, I dont think so. On the dyno my car peaked at a little under 5000 and we shut down well before 6200 and the power was pathetic.

Yea, you're going to start floating valves at about 5700 - 5800. Most guys I know running good times in their stock/near stock 5.0's are shifting at 5500.

. I'm guessing by fixed he meant advanced timing lol but I'd think he'd just be spinning the motor, but it pulls past 5800 rpm hard when I was in it. Supreme Member

They make peak power right around 4800 stock. My friend that runs 14.0's with just a K&N and drag radials is shifting at 5500...he's also a hell of a driver.
I shift at about 5200-5300, and my car makes peak power a little under 5000. If they are ruuning up to 6200 they are killing their times. Tell them to shift near 5400-5500 and they will be 13s!

hmm, perhaps he had an aftermarket cam and didn't know about it. he was shifting at 6200 every since he got it cept for that timing issue lol. I dunno, I've heard 5.0 factory freaks exist. it's a vert, they are much heavier than the coupes.
I dont think there are too many freaks, just cars that have been taken care of better. My car has 130,000 miles on it which is why it runs bad times, and my dads has 70,000 miles on it and runs killer times. His was always garaged and never seen rain, and mine was daily driven and kept outside for nearly all its life. Either way you aint making power to 6200 no matter what.

) round here seem to say they need to shift at 6200 rpm for some reason
, I shift my engine at 7000, but it's a solid roller and I'm making peak at 6500 rpm, 7100 is where I set my rev limiter. I guess they're just taking full advantage of the forged internals

I would say drivers race, and 85 mph is a joke.

lmao...I just figured it out...that kid is a frickin dumbass...his speedometer only goes up to 85. Please shoot him and remove him from the gene pool immediately.
OMG Nic your right. I never even realized that till you said it.
I guess he has never gone past 85 because when you do the needle just keeps going. I have seen them almost straight down before. This kid isnt too bright if he thinks the speedometer is what holds the car back.
I change my mind, the Iroc wins this one because of the driver!
