Lost to a Tempo!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Well I was driving my friend's 85 Z he has a carb'd 305 and I pulled up against this 2 door Ford Tempo GLS, It did have a V6 badge on the side and it had gfx and foglamps, I thought nothing of it thinking I'd stomp him, Well we pull out and he got me off of the start and by the end he had me by at least 10 cars!!!! He seemed to have a 5 speed, My buddy has no mods to his Z, How the **** did I lose to a Tempo??? Did they put V6's in them weak *** cars?

Well I got to talking to the guy today, He dont' have NOS, It's a stock V6 with a 5 spd, Looks clean as hell..........Looked it up on the net and they do 0-60 mph in about 7.4 seconds and the 1/4 at 15.4@92 mph
Not bad for a Tempo, Even so, I am surprised he beat my friend's Z

daam thats a good time for a lil econo car. with that trap, it should be in the 14's, maybe 14.8-14.9. your friends Z probably runs a 16's in his LG4

10 car lengths by a Tempo!

I'd take your buddies car and burn it to the ground after that loss.

Well I wouldn't have been ashamed to lose to that Tempo it was in awesome shape it was white and it had factory gfx, foglamps, rear spoiler. I didn't even know them car's came with a V6, They only weigh about 2500 pounds not? So with a V6 and a 5 speed they move pretty good, I see there are many different specs on their V6, 140 HP and 160 ft lbs is what I see most but today I stopped by the Ford dealer because I was curious and the Vulcan that they put in the Tempo GLS/Topaz XR5 had 180 HP and 205 ft lbs of torque, DAMN!!!

Kinda funny that everyone's first thought is that the guy must have had NO. Didn't anyone consider that maybe he's a better driver?

Stock their 1/4 time is 15.4

So their not all that together slow, They're pretty darn quick if you ask me, I'd bet that they could take any stock carb'd 305

Just goes to show, never underestimate your oponnent. I myself am kind of a tempo guy (go ahead and flame but you might as well just punch a wall because it won't do you any good). The 5spd V6 models made for a surprisingly snappy little car, and the GLS was often called the "baby SHO". Along with the Mercury Topaz XR5's, GLS's are pretty unique.

Didn't you use to come onto the v6 board as 85camarorulz or something like that? I could have sworn there was a guy that was obsessed with 92 z28's, said he beat his girlfriend in her z24 with his v6 car, and bought a tempo( which he swore was a low 15 second car). He used to get into it with a guy named jocww all the time. This all sounds way to familiar to me.....

Don't underestimate the power of those little cars. My buddy used to have a 1993 Mercury Topaz (Tempo knock off) and it had a 3.0 V-6 "Vulcan". The car stock ran mid-14's in the 1/4. Many times I was with him I seen him stomp new 3.8 Camaro's and V-6 Stangs. They have some kick behind them!!

youve gotta watch out for those lil econboxes. yeah i remember the XR5 kid and JOCWW. they couldnt make a post without a flame war starting up, but watch out thers a lot of those sleepers out there, like early 90's Beretta GTZ's, those quad fours will stomp a LG4 a good one, and a Cutlass Calais, had a quad 4 442, it was a twin cam 2.3 liter with oldsmobile W41 cams, those things were mid 14's easy. yeah man talking about a mercury topaz brings back fond memories of flame wars and dancing with the lalas :lala: :lala: :lala: :lala:

man no it was not me i no the guy your talking about though and i am sorry to say that he is also a tempo owner!

he is very biased on what car he likes that week
one day his topaz rules all the next it is **** not to mention he dont no jack about cars he quote times for the early 90's Z28's as they were 1998 6 spd z28's he does not see the dofferance between the T56 and 700r4 , he has a 2.8 camaro and because he hasa "camaro" thinks he knows all about every one lol

2.8 camaro is like a 4 banger stang not point but for old blue hairs to get groceries!
