Racing w/ 3.73's
I was wondering how 3.73 gears do from a roll and when do they start to really leg behind in power. I know they do good from a stop but is that it? I have a 350 with a mild cam and stock 700R4 tranny. Any tips? Thanks.

My 3.73s pull all the way to 148mph. it depends on your motor. my mods are in sig. I think they are one of the best all around gear ratios out there.

If you have tip do not get 3.73s as it pulls you out of your powerband very quickly as tpi_roc might tell you. 3.73s are Great for a carbed car as it can breathe over 4500 rpms though. 3.42 is a better number for a tpi car, maybe even a bit lower, 3.23 or so...
This question might be better asked on the tpi board or possibly the drivetrain board, I'll leave it open for a bit but it's not really applicable to street racing.

Ok sorry Inwo. Just wanted to know how these gears do from a roll. My car makes power above 4000RPMs it goes till about 4800. A lot of the races i get into are from a roll of about 35mph. The other races are usually from a stop or about 60mph. Its good to know i still have a lot of power with my new 3.73's even from a roll. My old 2.77's didn't do too bad but from a roll of 35 it didn't do too good but 60 holly crap! 60mph with my old gears is where the car would really come alive. Thanks for the reply's and if anyone else has a comment or advice let me know. Im hopefully going to pick up my car today!

The important thing is to have an engine that can rev high enough in the upper MPH's to keep you moving. 3.73's are great for Auto cars and t-56 cars. If you have a t-5 and have a near stock 305, which doesn't like RPM, you will suffer at higher speeds. A lot of LS1 guys run 4.10's but then again they can rev to 7k all day long.

So a slightly modded 350TPI is still good with 3.73's? I still plan on doing a lot of modding but its going kinda slow not having a job. I just got the car back today and i do notice a big big difference but i cant really get on it because of a 500-1000 mile break-in period.
And my speedo is way off. Doing 60mph it says im doing 80. Again, thanks for all the reply's.

You will be fine with a slightly modded L98 and those gears will work great with the 700R4 and that motor. Go for it and you will be pleased.
