Had some fun while at the track against a civic

I went to the track the other night to try out my car and had some fun.

On my second run a mid 80s civic all modded out pulls up beside me. I wasn't really paying attention because I was there doing some testing and didn't really care what was next to me, but I noticed he had slicks up front.

We stage.

I cut an .033 light to his .264
My 60 ft was 2.189 vs 2.344

Needless to say by this point am I well ahead of him

He runs a 14.556@100.72mph to my 14.219@99.69 mph.

I beat him by a .568 margin

2 runs later who's beside me again? Mr.Civic.

I cut a .09 light to his .371
My 60ft 2.118 to his 2.18
MY ET 14.18@99.233 vs 13.909@102.081
But I still beat him by a margin of .010!!!

This run was close...

I come around to make 1 last run to test something...who's beside me once again? Mr.Civic....by this time I figured he wanted to keep running me until he beat me, afterall his car was actually faster than mine, I was just killing him off the line!

Last run I cut a .210 light to his .276
60ft: mine 2.191 vs 2.221
ET:mine 14.292@99.239 vs 14.19@100.836

He beat me by a .036 margin...right at the line!!!!(the only run I lost in all night)

All this was done on my street tires vs slicks on his end. So if I actually ran my hoosiers I'm good for 2-3 tenths faster.

I was trying to figure out what was causing my 99 mph wall I was hitting but he was out to get me...in the end he prevailed...but it was fun to watch him try so hard!

Fast little civic though because the left lane that he ran in actually shows about 2 mph slower than the right. I tested that because my data logs from my runs show the same Mph in both lanes but the left timeslip shows 2 less!!!

so he pulled 104 mph against me!!

I think your stock runners and cam are holding you back...get some siamese runners and a healthy cam and youd probly see a noticable big gain on the top end, especially with vortec base and heads

I've gotten the car in the 13s now with tuning and a new ypipe. But I agree the runners/plenum and I hate saying it, cam are holding me back...

I will be installing new runners and a ported plenum, then take it to the track. After that I will try 1.6 rrs. I don't think I will go any further than that...afterall it's really just a Sunday drive car, we bracket race a 78 Trans Am(or atleast we're trying to!).

I think with the runners/plenum and roller rockers I can get this car into 13.3-13.5 @102-104 mph territory...that's good enough for a street car with completely stock characterstics.

Your goals are right where I am now, and yes that is a good spot for you to be. The car is so much fun on the street, yet not wild enough to be a weekend car!

Good luck, and nice reaction times!

Yes, there will come a threshold where you will find your car parked more than it is driven.

I guess being in the position you're in, you have your options open to as whether you want a mild(but quick) setup, or the all out hp gains. Overlooking all your options and what you want to do, its up to you to decide how bad you want those imports to lose. Nice car by the way.

I think it is good to take care of the imports, but if this kids Civic was well done, not tacky, and obviousely fast, then I give him credit!

I assume this was directed to me...thank you.

Really all I want is a car that I can make a race out of pretty much anything on the street...and I think I can now so imagine with runners/plenum and roller rockers....

Eventually I will be building a late 80s Formula with a Pontiac 400 under the hood for the track only.

For now I enjoy driving my car in it's current civil state and it will remain very civil!

I'm sure it would be nice to have a track project like that with the big block, but also a quick(smog legal) daily driver. Definitley with those next upgrades your car can make a good race out of cars that cost 3x times as much as yours does.
