89 Trans Am WS6 vs 85-86 Monte Carlo SS

Watcha think?

As far as i know the SS is stock. All i know is its black and has a nice big dent in the front fender.

My 89 WS6 has a hooker catback, gutted cat, open element, eibach pro kit, new kyb shocks/struts

Who you think would win?

btw the TA has the L03, and i dunno what the SS has, its a carbed 305 i think?

Thanks!

Sounds like it'll be close,305 vs 305 and If hes got the LG4 305 you'll beat probly him pretty good. I dont know what those SS's came with stock, maybe someone else on here knows..

Just to clear things up here, the monte doesn't have the LG4, it has the L69. It also has 3.73 gears in the back. I don't know who will win though. If the mote is in really good running condition, I think it will be really close. Let us know how it goes!

i agree...it should be a close race. however, if he has cammed his motor or swapped in a bigger one, watch out.

BBCs fit easily under the hood of montes.

good luck and have fun.

Agreed, pretty even matchup. You Might win, but if his L69 is in good condition then he might take it.

well i found out today he doesnt have posi, even if you guys already knew it, i know now first hand. Yesterday he told me he had a limited slip rear and today im hearing him tell people that before school started this morn he was doing burnouts in the lot, and thats theres *3* big tire marks..so i said, only 3? not 2 or 4? he goes its limited slip. I told him no..limited slip and posi are the same, he just has a open rear, like me. So now i know he dont have a posi for a better launch, just wonder what gear ratio he has

Specs for 85 Monte SS

Specs Stock 86 Monte SS

The site also says that in 84 SS's came with 3.42's so looks like the site is fairly accurate.

monte facts

A properly tuned monte SS with an experienced driver will have an edge.

For detailed info on Monte SS's, check out:

www.montecarloss.com

Something as simple as a set of headers will give the monte a pretty good edge since the design of the catback is far better than a F-body setup.

There is a guy on the SS site that is running 14.85 with a completely stock SS except for the manifolds were switched out for TES headers.

The SS guys sounds like an inexperienced driver which can really hinder the ability to optimize the cars ability(the peg leg dont help either, lol)

I've raced a couple monte ss's in my old LO3 firebird. It was always a good race but i always came out on top. I honestly think u can take him if he has a car with around the same mileage as you. good luck u got em. But watch out alot of those montes swap for 350's
