Was out for fun tonight

I was out for a drive tonight with the wife and was looking for some action....saw 2 other 3rd gen T/As, but both looked like 305 POS

Went after a late model Camaro SS...but he didn't bite. Came across a late 80s Mustang GT with a huge cowl hood....but he never even looked at me. I guess he figured I was just a stock 15 second GTA and never even bothered....too bad I could have shown him the power of the Dark Side!

Then a few blocks from home what do I see....a brand new Mazda RX8.

I get to the red light that he was stopped at and wait for green. Light goes green I roll out next to him as he starts moving, he nails and I follow....it took all but a second for me to pull on him, stretched him about 3-4 cars before we let off(top of 2nd gear).

He was turning at the next light but he gave me the thumbs up nonetheless....

I can add this to my list of "latest technology" kills next to the 350Z I ran heads up at the track a couple of weeks ago.

Nice, how much power do those new Rx8's make?
At the top of second were you still pulling on him or did he stay even after the few cars?

The RX8 is disappointingly slow and 4 doors. It's kind of like what everyone fears the 5th gen camaro will be. They need to up the power on it if they don't want their enthusiast base to completely go away to other manufacturers. It sure does look purty though. I think they're high 14s? Nothing awe inspiring, really.
Good kill though, long as you don't spin you should be taking down cars like that pretty easy.

The 5th Gen will be nothing like that. You gotta remember they are quick for imports. BTW p@h, what did the 350Z you beat run??

I read a road tesst that puts the manual RX8 at 14.6@96 mph with 250 HP....the automatic is only 210....not sure what he was driving..

I was still pulling on him, just let go because traffic was approaching.

The 350Z ran a 14.6@94 mph against me....I cleaned him out on reaction time, 60 ft and overall ET. I had him by atleast 7-8 cars on the top if not more(hard to judge when your ahead)

Yeah these cars don't really worry that much, I got my car into solid 13s on its street tires so if I don't blow the launch on the street most cars don't stand a chance!!!

I really wanted to race the 'stand though...cowl hood, weld wheels and big chrome tach inside....it sounded like it was all show and no go....would've been fun

Yeah, that's what I thought. I had some1 I know tell me the other day the 350Zs have 320HP stock and run low 13's LOL, because the owner of 1 told him so. (that's more like stock LS1 level) So I just laughed and said no way!! I left a note of the cars' real specs on his car that night. Some people are crazy.

I read that Mazda is actually buying back some cars from customers because they are so unhappy with the RX8's performace. Mazda is supposedly going to remedy the situation. But even Car and Driver said the car wasn't very good and you had to rev the hell out of it to feel any power at all. With that high of a powerband it is not a good street car.
