To race, or not to race. That is thy question...

On the way home from work today I was passing the I-290 merger and this white 94-98 mustang flys by, neary 100mph. A Thirdgen formula was following him. As soon as they got out of heavy traffic they slow down. The Formula beeped twice and I heard the mustang go to WOT. The formie had some mods, or at least an exhaust, it didn't sound stock. As soon as he went WOT he started pulling BAD on the mustang, he lost badly you'll find out why below.........

......the mustang lost for a very good reason. Well after the formula pulled away the white stang pulled behind him and well, the red's and blues started going off.

Here's the lesson kiddies. Don't start a race with white, undercover mustangs. You'll ALWAYS lose. Sad thing is that might have been me had I been driving the GTA.

That's sounds not right....if the cop car started it....who knows....but to me...if I'm driving down the highway at a legal speed, and an "undercover" mustang pulls next to me, revs, and then goes WOT, and I follow, that isn't right he can ticket me. I'd want to sue somebody for that....my tax dollars paying so that the state trooper can recklessly bait cars into racing then pull them over. Imagine a cops doing that, and in trying to bait a car into a race by flooring it so they can pull them over, they lose control and cause an accident and kill someone in another car. I can understand if I was the one instigating the race, but it's like self defense, if somebody attacks you, you got a right to defend yourself, cops dont' walk around verbally harrassing people and hitting them to see if you hit back so they can arrest you. Whatever....thats a bad comparison, but still....I can't believe it would be legal for a cop/state trooper to do that...the negative PR the department could get if something went wrong is ridiculous.

it happens, we just hope it doesn't happen to us. We just like havin a little fun, but those cops are getting really into it I guess. Fruity, it's up to you, or the always legal aternative strip if your near one.

No, it's not like that. You control your right foot on that pedal. Flooring it and street racing is illegal, if you don't want to be ticketed for it, don't do it. I haven't raced for long, but once I got my "speed contest" ticket that put me out of the ball game.
Keep it on the track, or eventually you'll probably get caught...

Actually, the cop can't do anything to instigate a race. That would be entrapment.

However, I didn't see the start of the first run. They did that on 290, I was on 355. They were racing down the merge, and went at it a second time. Thats when the cop nabs him.

If a undercover cop car pulls up to you and just sits even with you, and YOU start the race then the cop can give you a nice fat ticket for street racing.

The cop cannot however, pull up next to you, beep his horn and ask you if you want to race, then race you. Thats entrapment and it'll get thrown out of court.

Ya, i have seen those illinois undercovers. First time was an orange and black (what looked to be) bos 302 SN95 going down the road at about 110 with the lights on on 55 north of springfield by an hour. So i started watching for those, plus i hear illinois uses a few 4th gen ss interceptors. So in illinois you gotta watch for like 20 differant kinds of cars. Man it makes it hard. I dunno though, if the cop didn't start the first race, but started the second the judge may throw out the second time, but allow the first, so the guy may get lucky and not get charged for both, but still its not gonna be a good ticket.

Now I have a question which car gets the kill. By the sound of it the Fbody was faster, but the Mustang actually won!!!

Actually you guys are right that it is entrapment "if" the Mustang started it. If the Fbody had gone the first time then the cop had every right to pull him over.

Thats what I thought, I knew it had to be BS for them to instigate....brody...that sucks man....but you gotta be careful...I know dudes that race all the time on the highway...never been caught...just gotta have self control and know where and when to do it. Roads are so busy these days.....

To race in traffic or anywhere near other cars is stupid, suicidal and homocidal. Sounds like these assclowns were racing through traffic, the cop should have known better than to endanger other motorists by even allowing the race to begin. From the way the initial post was written it sounds like the undercover cop was just as in the wrong as the guy with the formula who honked to begin the race. Bad show all around.

Yeah, you gotta watch what you race nowadays.....here in Indiana the state police have 15 4th gen z28's that you'd never guess were undercover till you try to race one

I'm not sure about the rest of Illinois, but I KNOW that the state police have at least 3 undercover sports cars in the area.

White 94-98 mustang.
Black 99+ Z28 Camaro
Pewter Metallic 99+ TransAm

I hate when I see cops flying on the highway at 100 MPH. They are the law, they should follow the law.

Illinois has all kinds of cops on the highway. I saw a minivan the other day. Today on my way home from school, I was on 290 and saw a pewter SS Camaro. Also, the cops used to use special license plates (green letters and some where brown letters for the state police I believe). But now, they are using regular civilian plates on undercover cars so there really isn't any way to tell if you are in front of them. If you're behind them, you can usually see the lights in the back window and the antennas on the truck. So now in Illinois, if you have an Impala behind you with civilian plates, watch it.

Edit- I just posted after FruityOne posted. Theres more:

White 94-98 mustang.
Black 99+ Z28 Camaro
Pewter Metallic 99+ TransAm

Pewter 98+ Camaro
Dark blue 95ish Dodge Caravan
Lots of Impalas with civilian plates
Black 93-97 Z28

Right in that area, Iv'e seen a black cobra, and a black LT1 Camaro pull people over, and I've heard about a GTP and 3000GT VR4, but I don't know how much truth there is to those. Also you have to watch out for those taxis sitting on the side of the highway!

Yup a while back I pulled up at a light next to an Intrepid, custom paint, rims, wing, etc. I was talking to the guy, and asked him if it was fast, he said hell yeah. He started revvin, but then I said no, Im not racing you here, theres too many cops (we were in Castleton)...So he took off, and an old Malibu behind me passed me up, walked the intrepid and then I see blue and red lights flashin on the intrepid...For once I made a smart decision. I tooted my horn a few times when I was going past him and the cop gave me a thumbs up..gotta be careful these days

I went to school down by glendale IL, and I would see the cobra, and camaro on the hwy. the chicago area is real common to go above 80 mph I used to cruise home and back in a celebrity going way past 85 mph(thats the max it showed) and people would pass me. so I could see the formula just chasing the cop and the cop seeing this slowed down and let the idiot nail it.

I don't know about you guys but when we get together in the early weekend mornings in Toronto in "select" drag racing streets there are usually cops either : 1) watching ( off duty ) 2)participating ( drag racing with their own personal vehicles) or 3) crashing the party ( on duty patrol cars or helicopters ) ! Even cops like to have some fun once in awhile.

There are at least 2 or 3 black 2 door unmarked GTPs running around my town. We also have Black tinted window suburbans running around too. And *** only knows what else.

Yeah, I saw that Cobra today. He was sitting in my parking lot at work for a while until we went outside to look at it. Then he left and moved to the Wendy's parking lot.

I haven't seen any of this going on around where I live...of course I haven't had my car for a while cause of the accident. But that sounds like cheating if you ask me...if I got caught I'd definitly argue entrapment.
