Yah so i beat a turbo'd eclipse last saturday. it was a good race, and i posted about it earlier but i guess i was evading the filter so my post was deleted.

so yah, chalk another one up for the roc.
oh yah, and now my injectors finally died, so the car has to sit for a few days.

AWD or FWD Turbo Eclipse? Was it from a stoplight or prepped streetrace?

it was a newer 98-01 eclipse (not the newer bodystyle, but NOT a DSM), fwd car. It had all the usual crap, 3 foot aluminum wing, body kit, big rims, shaved everything, and a really nice maroon paintjob. he followed me after i revved on him, and he kept pullin up beside me, squeekin his turbo at me. lol. we finally caught a red light, he slammed on his brakes to stop. I got the revs up a bit, and put a car on him off the line, then another 2 car lengths until i saw him shut down at about 60-65mph. he then gets in the right turn lane and stops beside me to say, "I didn't get a good launch but that was nice man!". I gave him the bunny ears and drove home happy. The car was nice, i bet alot of money was put into it, but i think it was originally an eclipse RS with a turbo or maybe engine swap and turbo. My roommates sister has an 03' RS and that thing is a doooog. even with CAI and fart can.

(there i typed it all out again) :lala:

There was no 98-01 body style in the eclipse...
1g dsm which included talon eclipse laser was 90-94
2g was 95-99 talon and eclipse with talon going away in 98 due to the dissolving of the DSM corporation which chrysler actually pulled out of in 94.
How do you know it was fwd or a gs? Are you sure it was a turbo and not an 00-present with a supercharger (easier to hear at a stop)
If it wasn't a DSM then it must be the newer style, I am pretty sure that a supercharger kit would be more common on an originally n/a engine that's a v6 but I don't know much about the newer body style eclipses so who knows.
Anyway, good run.

ok so it was probably a 99 or so. I dont know for sure. It looked pretty new but it wasnt the boxy style gay lookin ones. The reason i say rs is because i am sure it was 4 cyl, not a v6. I think a turbo'd v6 would have probably taken me. I guess it could have been a gs, but arent those only v6? or is that the gt's?

The reason i say it was a turbo is because i could only hear it when he let off the gas (blow off valve). ppsssssssrrrooo!

That looks like a 95-97 base model in the pic, the 98-99 GSX had a large wing in the back and a tiny little turbo (T-25) that was only a sign of the horrible things performance wise to come for the Eclipse name. Those ran high 14s stock (if you know how to drive) but the crappy T-25 couldn't really support much more than high 13s. Sure it spools up real quick and runs 14psi stock but its maximum efficiency is around 16psi or so although of course some people run more boost on it. After 16psi it is just pushing hot air and is no longer running efficiently. That little turbo is Loud. 100% stock you can hear it spool inside the car in many cases.
It's doubtful he was venting to atmosphere or has an upgraded bov as it sounds like he had his car all riced out but hard intake pipes make the bov more audible outside the car.
There was no turbo 6 in any DSM, the new eclipses are n/a and nothing impressive performance-wise. It sounds like you ran a later model Eclipse GSX auto as you made no mention of his shifting or his launch.
BTW Eclipse models are GS (n/a) GS-T (fwd turbo) and GSX (AWD turbo) for future reference. RS was the Laser turbo model. I don't know about the newer models. Pretty sure the newer models are RS GS and GT all 3 6 cyl but you'd have to look that up yourself as I have no interest in those.

New ones can be 4 cyls in the cheap models.

Good kill! He didn't want to run again even though he got a "bad launch."

That looks like my x-roomates car. Maroon and all! Hers was a 96, and a 4 banger/5 speed....and slower than (you know the word). I let her b/f that said he could drive (HA!) try to take me in my 90'RS in her car and I made him look like he forgot which one was the gas pedal. Go figure he said, "I got a bad launch." When me and my roommate got back to our place I about wet myself laughing....

Good kill Josh! GO 90's!!

Yeah I'll go with you guys if I'm not working. I'd love to see your car run! I bet if I took mine down there right now I'd be lucky to pull out high 16's. I need stickier tires....Just let me know when and I'll make the effort. Ohh BTW, you have a digital camera Josh? Bring it down there if you do!

There is a newer body style turbo RS running around my town. He put an aftermarket turbo kit on it and it runs an astounding 15.7.
