This guy at work

This Guy at work has a 1995 Honda Prelude that he just purchased about two months ago. He claims this prelude of his can run a 12.5 Quarter mile. He says this is possible because of the light weight of the car (2800 lbs) and the Engine mods the guy who owned it before him made.

I Think he is full of ****, and told him so. He said he would love to drag race my Bird, (91 Firebird formula 350, Pretty much stock) but it's out of comission waiting on new vortec heads.

So what's the deal with these honda preludes? Can they really be any faster than low 14?

Absolutely

The Prelude isn't only light, it's got a pretty good motor. I think it's got the 2.4 (import owners would know better than me...). A little nitrous oxide, a turbo-very possible. Just ask to see whats under the hood, if he doesn't want to show you call him a liar and laugh at him......

I can very obviously tell that it's not charged, as I've looked under the hood and had not seen nos or a charger. he continually claims that he can run a 12.5 naturally aspirated.

Run him and laugh, theres no way he's running anywere neer 13's let alone 12's N/A.

I got a m8 with a turbo prelude motor, modded in his Accord and he hasnt broke 13's yet. Average runs were 14.6-14.8, Best run was a 14.2 much to his dismay.

My m8 with an 1990 Iroc 350 TPI bone stock, beat him twice that day at the track this right after he claimed he could take ANY stock 3rd gen Camaro easy. Now he wants an Iroc

His brother had exact same setup, Prelude motor in an accord modded, minus the turbo and it wouldnt get out of the 15's.

Well if its a 95 he even has the possibility of haveing a non v-tech 140hp 4cyl makeing easy pray for even us L03 owners. If he does actually have the 190hp vtech motor and its a 5spd, assuming he can drive, low to mid 15's thats it. Not to mention the preludes are kinda heavy, coming in at almost 3000lbs. If you have seen the engine and there isn't anything in there to speak of then go walk his ****.

Yea right, if thats true then my old dodge shadow that has thrown a rod can run 14's. there is no way that thing can run 12's, maybe in a 8th. I would race him for money.

This dude has a 99 (I think) Acura Integra that he says can also run in the twelves... I have not yet been able to inspect it as he says it's a 'Show car'. It's got projector headlights and all that ryced out crap. Mirror LEDs... this guy is a dumbass.

His car is zippy, but definately not a 12 second runner.

We raced today, I used my Beater 1999 f-150 v-6, and he beat me by about 3-4 car lengths. He said he made a poor launch and claimed he let me get out by a couple car lengths before he went. I could obviously see him hold with me off the line, but Played it dumb and said "yeah I could see you let me get out early".

I'm Going to slam his *** with the bird... and Money will be bet.

Better yet, mount them on your fender above/behind the front wheel opening, like kill symbols from WWII fighter aces......

That is to funny! What a great idea. I would hate to give up my "expensive to replace" GTA badge to some kid with a fat turbo import though.

Laters,
Scott

I sure wouldn't want to pollute my car with emblems from other cars... I'd melt them down into limited edition commermorative collectable coins or something, unless they're made from plastic now... dunno. Sure wouldn't want to lose the badges off MY car, though...

H O O D O R N A M E N T S ! ! ! ! ! ! !

I LOVE the idea of running for hood ornaments! I've been laughing out loud for five minutes thinking about getting out a screwdriver and prying the hood ornament off a car belonging to some poor ***** that I just whooped in a race! That's Too funny!

I would never mount the crappy ornaments from these other cars anywhere on my car but dangling from the Rear view mirror would be kool!

AS far as running this guy goes: As soon as you have your bird put together and all the bugs worked out - when you know it's running RIGHT - I would run him for any amount he is willing put up AND his hood ornament. Barring NO2 you should walk him like a yo yo...

Good Luck and let us know how bad you Whoop him!

ROFL me too! I want to race this early-mid 90ish 4 door accord with "engine work" runnin mid 15s in my moms mustang. LUVmy92 might have seen it. Aluminum windshield wipers, kickers rear windshield sticker in BIG lettters, Honda sticker on gas tank, crap wheels, fart pipe lol. This one kid in my 4th block is like: "his car is bad, he has a tv, and a ps2, and engine mods. It's all stocked up." LOL that kid is dumb, but it would be bad to have em on a huge clip and hang them on your rearview when you drive, and put them on your keychain we you go places! .

But on topic, you got this race. No question unless he's runnin the bottle.

I have a friend who has a 97 Prelude that has ran a 12.91 @ 110.34. Here's is how...

Unorthodox Racing 3 Pulley Set
Custom 3" exhaust with RPi Muffler
Turbonetics T3/T4 Ball Bearing Turbo
Tail 35mm Wastegate
Spearco Intercooler
3" Intake pipe w/ K&N Filter
42 Lb. Secondary Injectors
Erl mf2 Additional Injector Controller
R-Ideal Head Gasket
HKS Racing BOV
Mandrel Bent Downpipe
B & M Oil Cooler
Nitrous Express Intercooler Fogger System
Nitrous Express Fully Automatic Bottle Heater
Nitrous Express Purge Kit
Turbo XS High Performance Boost Controler
ACT Heavy Duty Pressure Place With 6 Puck Disk
Fidenza Flywheel
Erick's Racing Throttle Body
Flex-A-Lite Radiator Fan
Quaife Auto Biasing Differential
Walbro 255 LPH Fuel Pump
DSS Stage II Axles
MSD 8.5 mm Wires

That's just the engine and drivetrain work. He has a lot into the suspension too.

It dyno'd 279.6 hp and 294.3 ft-lbs @ 11 psi

Not to mention he was running SLICKS!

So you see, it's not exactly easy to get a Prelude to be that quick. It's heavier than the other Honda cars, the 2.2 isn't the best engine to start with, and it's a HONDA! Tell this guy to get on his knees and swallow.

oh the hood ornament thing is great! I ran a kid in a Mustang a few years ago. he was talking so much trash I finally said that if I beat him, he had to give me one of the 5.0 emblems off the car. the car looked like hell anyway, so it wasn't going to hurt it. he was so confident he would win he said yes, and told me i had to give him a centercap off my wheel if i lost...of course he didn't want to give it up afterwards, but his friends rode his a$$ till he finally yanked it off...

Now i have a nice 5.0 sitting on my desk...didn't have the heart to put it on the car, but for a while I would drive past him and hold it up, asking if he was missing something...

anyway all the guys i work with are Honda freaks, all they all magically run 10.20's...it always starts with some guy at work

i raced my friends 96 Prelude about 2 months ago and I kick his ****.
He has:
Tenzo muffler(for that killer bee sound)
Pulley set(not sure what the hell it is)
DC header
Ice Man Cold air intake w/K&N filter

His best time here at the local track is a 15.8. I got hime by 1 1/2. The vtec's are low 15 second cars with the right drivers. I have read that in MT. Most kids drive them and can't get that number, more like high 15's(high 16's here).
His car might get you, just depends on the mods). Your car hit high 14's-mid 14's. Get a good jump and hope he isn't as fast as he thinks he is. Or you can add headers and a exhaust +a K&N and beat him. All all depends on the driver. He can have all the mods in the free world but if he can't drive(or gets cocky)he'll lose to even a Storm. Good Luck.

If he has a automatic its not a Vtec only the SOHC motor. If that is the case, you'll more than likely beat him.

About the hood emblem thing...Good idea, but just let it be whatever little emblem or word that they are willing to give up. Make sure it's relatively small. Make a huge necklace out of your trophies. Keep it in your car. When challenged, suit up by taking the necklace out and putting it on. Make sure your challenger can see your "scalps".

Of course, at some point, it may turn into one of those Celtic style bands that goes over one shoulder and across your chest.

Part of me would love to do this to people. If only I was a little bit meaner.

Preludes are pretty quick to 60 but they give out. Kind of a contradiction to what this legendary VTEC is supposed to do. But I've always found that they suck off the line, unless you're hard on them- in which case you jump a little...and then they give out and get really weak. Almost as weak as they're low end.
