Raced a 93 Z28
The other night leaving class (I get out at 1:40 am) I was behind this kid in my class who has a really nice 93 Z28. We pull out on to the highway and he guns it. I am about 2 car lengths behind him, but I gun it anyway. We went up to about 85 or 90 and I was even with his rear bumper at that point. Then later he punched it from a roll, but I am not gonna mess with him from a roll, I dont feel like losing. He has a BBK throttle body, headers, hollowed out cat and a borla cat-back. Its automatic, but I think I did pretty well.

Buy a healthy IROC for $5000 and drop $15,000 into it
or
Buy a Ls1 in good shape for $20,000.
If you can't get the 3rdgen to run faster, you got a problem. 20K seems like the price around here to get a decent LS1.

actually i can't think of a newer car that has this head-turn appeal like the third gens! :hail:
lets not get into, well by this junker for 500 bucks and then put 35000 into the motor, or by a $35000 2004 cobra. realisticly it never happens like that. i paid 11750 for my ls1 with 40k miles and i have about a 1k in mods on it. and its running somewhere around mid 12's. but its a mid 12 car that LOOKS good too. hell i could put 8k in a motor and throw it in a junker and probably be as fast, but it wouldnt look as good nor have any of the other comforts, leather, ttops, GAS MILEAGE. The point that money will make anything fast cannot be argued, but its better to start with a solid base first.

First of all, I'd say you got a pretty good deal on your ls1 for under 12k. But what's wrong with thirdgen's as far as looking good? And there was plenty of them made with leather and t-tops. I'll give you the gas mileage of the ls1 as well. And it is better to start with a good base first. However, I think thirdgen's are the perfect base. I spent $3500 on my car. It had 102k original miles, and it was a G92 car. I've got $3600 in the motor, with another $400 or so til it comes back to life. So for $7500, I have car that runs as fast, or faster than yours, and depending on the person looking at it, looks as good. I dunno, to each his own. IMO I don't think the ls1 cars look THAT much better than thirdgens. Not to mention the insurance.

Although you have to watch out for the ls1's that decide to add the 'ole N2O...
Guess I'll have to do that as well at some point.

Indeed, to each their own. Wasn't trying to start a war, just givin my opinion. I don't hate the ls1 in any way. Hell my bro just dropped one in his '67 Camaro, they are really hard to beat. I like both third and fourth gen cars, I was just commenting that thirdgens can be made just as fast with the proper person behind the project.

i wasnt bashing 3rd gens, i was just saying i was in the same boat at one point. my 84z had about everything done to it besides forced induction, and it had trouble hanging with bolt on lt1's and almost stock ls1's. it was fast for a 305 though. it just sucks getting beat by someone that hasnt really done anything to thier car when youve put alot of time and effort into yours. at least now if i lose in the ls1 i know someone has put some work into their vehicle and i can appreciate that. but you have to admit 351 rwhp with headers/lid/muffler is impressive.
