04 SRT-4 story
I was reading through and noticed that nobody has seemed to have raced a SRT-4, so I figured I'd throw in my experience.
Car buddy of mine about a month ago, traded in his 02 VW GTi 1.8T for a 04 SRT-4 with most of the goodies. We dynoed it, bone stock and it did 227 HP and 247 ft/lbs, not back for a bone stock car. We decided to go down and shoot some pool at the local pool hall after doing the Free Ram Air mod on my 00 Trans Am and putting in a K&N (294 hp and 306 ft/lbs, same dyno as the SRT-4) with the only other mod being a B&M Ripper (love it). Anyway, being I wanted to give the SRT-4 a ride, we trade keys and head down to the pool hall. Impression of the SRT-4, doesn't feel like a turbo car, and deffinately fast for a 20k new car. So we shoot some pool, then decide to head out to the street races. Decision was made to let him drive my 00 to the Interstate, then we would trade back. I got to pass a truck, so I got a good pull in from 50 to about 80, then came to a light and got to launch it a little. Wheel hopped like a ****... but had some good power down low. However, the real test came when we were cruising at around 55-60 on the highway to the Interstate and he went to pass my w/ my own car! I throw the SRT-4 down into 3rd and punch it as the TA is about to my rear quarter panel... and it blew my doors off. The SRT-4 felt like it was standing still as the TA just walked it, pulled in infront of me. Later I also found out that it was a 4th gear pull, not 3rd, where it would have made more power.
So anyway, SRT-4 = fast, but can't play w/ the LS1s. We are gonna race once my 1991 GTA is put back together... stock 305 TPI AT w/ some bolt ons. Should be a better race.
