87 GTA vs 03 RSX type S

I am going to race my roommate's 2003 RSX type S. It's stock with a 6 speed rated at 200 hp. He siad he ran a 14.9 when he first got it. I ran a 14.5 last week (mods in the sig), so I think I will be able to take him but I am not entirely sure. My friends wont let me live it down if I lose to a honda (acura, honda same thing). Thanks for any guesses.

I am suprised that it ran into the 14's. Car N Driver has it running 15 flat at 94 mph. Assuming that they are good drivers, that is all that the RSX got. Unless your friend is a good driver he probably wouldn't match or best that time. RSX makes 200 hp at 7400 rpm and 142 lbft at 6000. Screaming machines, but it will be hard to launch them without lots of practice. they are quick but not GTA quick. Get him off the line and your home free. Playing catch up is not the TPI's game.

Well the people at car and driver have proved time and time again that they cant drive. I remember seeing 13.8's or something like that out of a 2000 SS in there. Also if they trapped 94 mph its easily a high 14 second car. I trapped 95 in setup in my sig and I was running 14.6's. Either way you should take him if you launch hard, but just because he says he runs 14.9's doesnt mean he does, he could have some nitrous that hes not telling you about or something. Thats what my damn friend did to me in his F**kin eclipse GT. I will never live that loss down. Good Luck.

He definitly doesn't have nitrous, I have been all through that car before and there is no place for him to hide the bottle. He definitly would have told me if he was spraying too, he's a nice guy like that. Thanks for the input, I am a little more confident that I can beat him now.

It was a 6speed I remember this spefically, made me want to kick them in the nuts for putting that in there magazine. They also ran like a 12.8 in the Cobra R. Oh and I have seen most stock Ls1 autos run mid 13s so a 13.8 wouldnt be bad for a stock auto.

My race is going to be postponed for a while, the GTA's rear suspension is making some interesting noises so I need to fix that before I break something. I'll keep you all posted though.

I ran a RSX last summer (90*+) in my bone stock (at the time) GTA. I had him by a good car length. My times were around a 15.1@90 then. If you hook i wouldnt think twice about loosing.

You gotta take into consideration is that they are running brand new cars. Most mass produced cars start running better/faster after 5-10k miles. Magazines give you an idea of how fast a perticular car can go, not the bottom line. I've seen differences of as much as a full second between 2 competing magazines. Usually a .3 or .4 of a second is normal(different weather/time of year and/or track conditions).

don't you think that it would stop alot of arguments if these magazines would take a whole bunch of official times from different drivers and conditions to make a national average or something of the sort?

Just remember, different tracks = different elevations and don't forget about weather either. Im not saying thier good drivers but you can't expect to see the same times everywhere.

Believe the stock LS1 auto with 2.73 gearing and the steel driveshaft was the slow one.

All of there times are corrected to elevation, but I get what your saying. My point was that most of the times in there magazine are a few tenths off.
