okay, once again, me vs 98 V6 stang

okay, this girl, is talking a TON of **** about how she can beat any car at my school. she happens to drive a 98 V6 stang. now, I might have trouble beating a cavy, but come on, a v6 stang only pushes 150 HP and weighs almost as much. It's also an automatic. I've gotten the ultimate TBI mods (forgot to mention when I posted about the cavi)

Now, I dont want to seem like some kid who things his camaro is F'n awesome. I'm well aware it's a 305 TBI, and not fast. But I choose my battles (IE, I know full well my friends WRX would wax me), but a V6 stang, come on...

my friends little brother has a 92 Firebird with a 3.1 V6 and he can spank V6 Mustangs, and my Crossfire could easily beat one, as long as you have a decent rear end gear and in good tune you should have no problem winning

Since its an auto and its a girl driving you should win, but not by much. Those things are high 15 second cars with a good driver and a 5spd. And I think they have 200 hp not 150. They are quicker than you think. My friend has one that is running 15.2 with just a full exhaust and CAI, thats better than most L03's with the same mods. Good Luck.

Edmunds.com says the 98 3.8 liter puts out 150 HP, and 215 TQ. I dont know how reliable they are, but that's what they said they had listed.

Whoops, I didnt realize that 98 didnt have the new V6 engine. Yeah if its the older one youll smoke her, I drove one of those after I did a break job on it in auto tech when I was in high school and those things are real slow. Good Luck.

Spanked a (96?) V6 Stang in a stock 89 Probe GT off the line. You shouldn't have too much trouble (unless she's hiding something, as women do)

The 94-97's have 170 hp, the 98's 190 and the 99+ are closer to 200. Dont get the sixers wrong my '96 would put a hurtin on my 305 before I started modding her. All it has is flows and a K&N it'll definatly suprise most people. I was able to completly pull off saying that it had a 347 (stroker based on 302) even after the guy rode in it he was shocked and he has an 04 GT. ya just never know in this crazy car world. This race is a deffinate toss up.

youve gotten me curious. I've checked around, and every site I've looked at, says 145-150 for the 98 3.8 V6. Is it possible this engine is underrated?

94 - 98 V6 Stangs will run in the 16s, varying from high to low 16s depending on transmission and driver skill.

99+ V6 Stangs can go as fast as mid 15s

these times are for 100% completely bone factory stock vehicles

if your car is anywhere in the 15s you shouldnt have a problem with a pre-99 V6 Stang

yes, they actually are under-rated. Ford unofficially stated this on several occasions. When it comes to a race I think you can beat it do to torque witch is lower with the 6.

Sure, HP is cool to talk about, but how much torque does her engine make, and what sort of gearing does it got? I'm thinking if you have a better torque/weight ratio, you will at the very least, beat her off the line. (Unless I'm a crackhead and way out in left field...)

Get yourself a good exhaust system on that LO3 just to play it safe. Perhaps an open element as well since they are cheap, people argue over how much it helps but its cool hearing the air getting sucked in.

tq for her car should be around 215ft.lbs. with an auto it will have 2.73 gears. not that fast off the line thats why I say race her there. You should be able to beat her considering the fact that shes a she in the first place. practice your launches and you should edge this one out.

I have an open element and some of the other ultimate TBI mods. I figure since I beat a 96 v6 stang 'vert in my dads 95 3.5L V6 intrepid, and I can take the intrepid, I can probably handle this stang, but I just wanted to make sure.

I speak from my experience with the 2 seeing as I have owned both. and the Mustang has closer power to the 305. The V-6 fbody's are total dogs. they are 30 hp and 35 ft lbs short of a v-6 Mustang, not to mention over 100 lbs heavier. While the Mustang and LO3 have the same hp but a 35ft lb difference which is closely balanced by the weight of the Camaro. This is why they are closer to each other.

My friends little brother can beat the V6 stangs I have rode with him when hes done it and I have a crossfire 305 T/A with 3.42 gears and I dominate them, so unless the LO3 sucks that bad or explodes during the race it should win, my 21 year old twin throttlebody injection can do it

The GT owner is pretty much an idiot. Also it helps that I know so much about engines and Mustangs in particular, I totally lost him in the conversation about building it. My brother was standin behind him laughing his *** off.

On another note go ahead and race the girl we all wanna know who takes this one.

We head on over to the usuall race spot. About a 1/8 mile strip of road right infront of a local middle school. there were alot of people there a bunch of us talked cars. I watched my 2 friends race in their 5.0 and a 04 WRX. I looked under the hood of this girls v6 mustang, didnt see anything by the way of engine mods, just had a cold air intake and a K&N. She looked under the hood of mine, and asks how many liters it was I said it was a 5.0 v8 and replies "no it's not." whatever, so we line up, and go, I pull about a car length on her off the line, and just keep pulling from there, I was about 3-4 car lengths ahead by the end of it. she said she wasnt ready so we went again, same result. then she raced my friends 5.0 got beat way worse. my friend decided to race in his camery, and lost by about a car, good stuff. so end result, I win, and she is left speachless.

the 99+ had like 200 hp, i thought the other ones had like 155hp or somethin but yeah ive driven a newer one before like 2002 and it wasnt that impressive even with the increase in power, i also looked at buying a 95 at one point and it was so sluggish. good job man, it feels good i killed my friends modded v6 camaro twice.

Ha. At least my wife knows a thing or two - find one who likes tinkering, and if she's mechanically inclined and asks questions ("how does that part work?"), it doesn't hurt either. Sounds typical, though, all some people care about is wether or not the stereo has a CD player in it, what color the paint is and where the gas goes in. Same type of people who think Rocksford Fosgate amps, a sub-box and chrome rims are mods.

I wonder who does the maintenance on her car? Her dad? b/f?
