me vs 79z28
Alright a friend of mine that I go to school with is always bragging about how awesome his 79 camaro is and now that mine is running again hes been talking an extra amount of crap. Well straight up I know he will beat me because he has a ton of money in this car, but he says he will give me a 5 car heads start and the move and beat me in 1/4 mile. What do you think? Here are his mods
383 stroker 11:1 compression
ported zz4 heads
roller cam with .520 lift and about 300 degrees adv. duration(he wont give me the full specs says its custom and a secret)
Victor Junior intake
turbo 400 trans with 3500 stall
12bolt with 4.10 gears
Every traction mod known to man(and its tubbed)
Of course slicks(i dont know what size)
ALso the car is gutted and has a roll bar. Weighs 3400 lbs without him in it. he claims it dynoed at 500hp at the fly I for some reason dont think it has that much power, but its possible. He also says it runs high 10's.
My combo is in my sig, right now I am trying to get a 3.42 geared rear and subrame connectors. I should run high 13's. I am pretty sure I will lose but I want some opinions and I want to know if you guys believe the numbers he says.

Assuming he has the carb dialed in he could very easly be at 500hp. He has a monster cam with the right intake and proper gearing to go with it. I wouldn't take him to lightly but I doubt he runs 10's. I would ask for a timeslip to varify that. Maybe he does maybe he doesn't. I am not sure if a 5 car head start is necessary though.

Oh yeah he is running an 850 dp carb aswell. I also thought sounded like a good setup but 10's sound like a little much. He is a very honest guy thought, so I dont see why he would make it up, especially since his car can take me even if it doesnt run 10's. He also has a 100 shot of nitrous that he claims not to run,so maybe that is where the 10's came from.

Hes not going to spray because its a friendly race and he isnt the kind of guy who would waste it on a race thats not for money. My point was that I dont know if his alledged 10 second times were on spray or not I will have to ask him when I see him next. I probably wont race him until I start class this coming semester but i want to know if I have a chance or not so I can maybe prepare a little better. Thanks for your input shifty

Well the good news is it sounds like this is just a friendly race. If your friend says his car will runs 10's and he has put that much time, effort and money into his car he knows what it will do. I would'nt doubt him. That being said The 5 car lenghts and the 1st move wont help you much unless you catch him napping. Give it a try. It will be worth it just to see how fast it truly is. Good luck!
