L98 vs. a 6-cylinder mustang - He sound really confident...

I've got an L98 swapped from an 87 corvette and a 5-speed, but otherwise stock to the filter.

He's got a later 90's (97 or 98?) V6 mustang with a five speed and cold air. Up until now I was sure I could murder one of those, but he sounded really confident. Are these things anything to worry about?

HAHAHA, THERES no way a V6 Stang could beat a L98, unless the l98 owner has no idea if he is racing

The Stang is supercharged, turbo'd, or nos'd right? I mean it would have to be for him to talk like that. LOL

Unless the car weighs 2300lbs, he must be smoking something.

His car probably runs mid 15s so youll kill him. Hes probably just smoked a couple of 305 or POS thirdgens and thinks that there all slow. Now its time for you to show him what a real thirdgen can do. Good Luck(although you dont need it).

hey

Yes, I also own an Lb9, but unfortunately according to you I don't have a real thirdgen, but when I checked the vin it said it was a thirdgen car. I'm sorry if I could only afford a low optioned 3rdgen, my bad.

I wasn't afraid of V6 Mustangs when my car was stock running a best time of 16.9. You won't have a problem.

Alright before everyone jumps on the fact its a Mustang, realize its a V6 first. The V6 part is what you should focus on, not the Mustang part!

If he loses (when he loses) tell him to buy a third gen Mustang !

You got this clown beat easy. Your car should be an easy mid 14 second car. Ford started to put a decent 190 hp v6 in Mustangs in the late 90's (not sure what year). Even with that motor he is toast!

Look at the tires. If they look serious, you should consider the idea that he may be hiding something. If they aren't anything special, he's a punk kid running his mouth cause he raced his friend's Kia Spectra with custom leaf blower supercharger and won. Really, it's just going to determine how many carlengths you beat him by, unless he really dumped some change into the engine. He could've dropped a blown 3.8 in that car and is running 13s, but it's no small project.

But the way it sounds, you've already seen the engine and it's going to be a joke.

The tires are a good point, but not the easiest way to see it. I know plenty of guys (me included) who have gone fast (Id call 12s fast) on a set of garbage tires. He could be going for sleeper look, but most likely not... Go beat him, and maybe go for some cash!

Let me just put something out here. The '99 mustang v6 has a 190 horse 3.8, and it will run 15's. 97-98 (the older body style), has 150 horse 3.8, and will not run 15's. Ever. I would say you could beat either, and if it's pre 99, you'll drive circles around him.

ThanX Vortec85, thats what my 88 is for! lol. Last time I checked it was a 85 and third gens started in 82 so.....hmmm? Be sure to tell all those boys running 9's, 10's and 11's(lots of work but who cares)that they don't have real third gens just because they have 305's.
Anywho....Did you race him yet? Lets hear it.

you definitely have this car beat. The only v6 stang that ran good is the 99+, and I have even taken one of those by a car length with my lg4.

So what happened? Please tell us that you didnt get beat lol.

Ok ok, Sorry guys. I haven't raced him, because right now I'm trying to spare my motor of strain until I figure out whats wrong with it. Check out my thread in General Tech.

I'm completely confident I'll win, but I'd rather be able to drive to school and work than to beat a lowly mustang once.

My friend has a '98 Mustang with the 3.8L... My Z28 has a (tired) smogger 350, about 180hp... has no problem keeping up on the highway, and always smokes it through the first 50ft

An L98 should do at least as well as my smogger 350 did.
