slightly moded l98 vs S2000??
ok, this was a race i did a while ago, but from what i saw and others saw the guy left early on me, in a stock S2000 convertable with a passenger beat my by like 1 1/2 car lengths and wouldn't rematch. the reason i bring this up is because a buddy of mine says he saw some footage online somewhere of where they street race by me and there was a white IROC(me??) racing this guy. was it because this guy left early or was it that my car is that slow??( STU figure you may want to chime in on this)
Heres the mods i had on it:
89 4 bolt main(not that it matters but i dont think it was an l98)
30 over
about a 2 step up cam
bigger TB
Flowmaster exh cat back sys
hoosier steet tires
took all the plastic out between the radiator and front clip
Accel 8.8 wires, 48000 volt coil, cap/rotor, AC delco plugs
full interior and no pass.
(and i think that was it)

S2000 was all stock?
From a dig, they have to be great experienced drivers to launch those things. Good tires would be great for them, cuz no torque till high rpm and high rpms will spin those tires. hear they are capable of high 13's.
Depending on your cam specs, compression ratio if not L98, and intake, then I would guess your close to high 13's if not low low 14's. From dig, if you keep tire spin down to minimal, then theres no way he will run you. You will be too far ahead for him to pass you as long as the race is not too long like over 1/2 mile.
From a roll, it depends on motor you got and your gears. You got an auto tranny? If he leaves early, he will probly take you. If same time, then it should be even unless your quicker than high 13's. Also depends on speed. From slow speed and low rpms, your torque will pull you ahead. From fast roll, his high rpm power will make short work of you.
But to many small variables. Need some more specs on your car.

An S2000 is a racecar right off the show room floor, but not a drag racing car. It's got a race motor, with a race body, and a race suspension set-up. In order to launch them well, you basically have to beat on a clutch that isn't really made for it.
Up here they run 15's, so I'd say 14's at sea level is right. They are fast with boost, but otherwise, they are just like any other N/A Honda, not made to drag, and expensive as hell if you want to go fast without boost or nitrous.

From what I hear, they are pretty much maxed out. 240 NA hp is pretty good. since this, I hear you cant boost them too much or the compression/cylinder pressure will go thru the roof.

Orr, besides the TB it is all stock TPI(that and the injectors but i dont know the lbs) and it is a stock trans/converter. but i didn't want to have some one end up with a vid of an IROC being beaten but a loaded car with a pass filming(which is another reason i think that they left early cause they started to film after they were in front of me). and i did start to pull on him at the end of the "1/4" mile(it was a back road thing) but now i dont feel so humiliated!!
ps no offense Stu, and i do give props and respect to guys who know what they are talking about with imports and that wrench as much as they can

My friend bought an S2000 a few years ago. Last fall we installed a Vortech supercharger on it that claimed to put 300hp at the rear wheels.
I would have to say that it did. We drag raced eached other all afternoon one day and his best time was like a 13.9 at 100mph.
He REALLY struggled launching with that thing. The clutch had to be dumped at like 7k, and then the tires really spinned. And when it was dumped lower than that he got a really slow start.
I suppose with awesome tires, experienced driver and a driver who desn't give a shiit about his drivetrain and launch it at 8k, could pull off mid 13s.
They are fun on the autocross track tho

S2000s don't have a lot of torque, but the torque curve is entirely flat. Flatter than an LT1 in fact, from the dyno that I saw. I'll have to try and find teh dyno online somewhere again. It was like 135rwtq, but it was 135 through the entire RPM band. They are pretty heavy for that little torque though, about 2800-2900lbs.
I'm sure they would be very fun to road race with, as mentioned above.

I have raced one before.
I have a '91 gta with 305tpi. AFPR, headers, comp cam, 3.42 gears, ported plenum, LCARBS and shift kit.
We were very close to each other.
He had to launch at 5000 and spun bad.
I launched excellent.
I g-teched him and he had about a 14.4-14.3 in the 1/4 mile.
With a slightly modded L98, there should be a good race but the l98 should win.
