hmmm 305 tbi puts 170hp, how much does the grand am put? Prob not as good if its a 2.3... I have to go with 305 TBI on this one, it prob produces more power in every way...

I agree. The quad 4 made 180hp and would easily run if not beat an LO3/LG4 from a roll. The early quad 4's had no low end at all and needed to be spun to 7k before the car would move. So, if this race was not from a dig, where it would have met its demise, I am going to have to say it was a race of speed and the quad 4 took out the LO3. Am I right?

it was from a dead stop. with out totally letting the cat out of the bag I will give you an Idea what those things really run... there are no real specs found for the H.O. 1/4 mile (not the reg. 16valve 2.3 150hp often called the H.O.)

you are right that gm claimed it only made 180hp
and there olds vertion w41 only made 190 hp and ran 14.7 1/4 mile @95 mph

Crappy magazine time but at least something. I was working at a Pontiac dealer in 95 and those were quick cars..just could not keep headgaskets in them. I would say a "good" driver could get a 15.5 at least with one.

My friend had a 86 IROC 305 TPI with a few little mods and we raced a 93 Grand Am GT 5spd Quad 4 and got beat by it..barely..but we got beat. This was from a 15-20mph roll to 90mph.
