'96 Grand Prix vs GTA

Okay, stock for stock we all know who'll win. (The wife, of course...) But, if my crazy scheme actually happens, I'll be sticking a remote turbo on the Grand Prix, probably six pounds of boost. It's 3.1, v6, 44k on it, automatic. I'm sure launches with boost there would be crazy tire-spinning, but assuming I could launch it decently, what sort of times could I expect to garner? I'm guessing 14-15-something, but I honestly don' know. What did the old TGP's run?

IMO. I figure with a healthy running 3.1 auto in that '96 GP you're probably @ 16.3 for the 1/4. Add a properly set up turbo with that moderate boost and you'll probably be gaining another 7/10ths.
Still makes for a nice sleeper.

I saw on ebay a guy did a 3.8SC motor in his, with a 5 spd, all custom done. Needed some work but i believe he was running low 13s, with mods and no traction.

so, snag a SC'ed 3.8 out of a newer GTP, and have fun!

My buddies got a 96 Grand Prix with a L67 swap. It is nasty. 3.0 Pulley (can go to a 2.8), CAI, Full Exhaust, Ported blower, stage 2 Heads/Cam package, and some more I can't remember.

It is funny hearing a choppy as hell idle from a grand prix

there are tons of the 98 + bodystyles around here running deep into the 12s, same with the regal GS as well.

After getting the car back from the shop, (BONE STOCK) it has a choppy idle, but that's because the engine is misfiring something fierce. It wasnt doing that when I picked it up, only later in the day. To think, it ran better with the engine that leaked coolant all over the place, then it does now, with an eingine with a third of the miles on it. Something isn't right.

But yeah, the L67 swaps are probably the only way most GP owners have tried to go fast. I even looked to see if anyone remote-turbo'ed their GP like I suggested, no one has tried yet. Looking at the 1/4-mile times on clubgp.com, anyway, that's what the fatest 88-96 cars are doing. Next is the GTP's with the 3.4 DOHC, then it's the TGP's, then it's the 3100's. I don't remember seeing a time that matched the Quad four-banger though.

You are correct, and with ZZP performance in grand rapids, you also have some 10 second GTP's there. My previous 98 GTP got into the 13's with minimal mods. Pulley, cone filter, high flow cat, and upgraded ECM.
