An early 90's Magnum 318 Dakota with a 5-speed is a low 15-sec truck stock. I had one. As far as the Dart you rode in....was probably bone stock with a 2 barrel and 2.76 gears in a 3500lb car with single exhaust. Also, the 318 is a 1000X better motor than a 305 could ever dream of being. The 318 has a 3.91" bore with a 3.31" stroke...as opposed to the 3.74" bore and 3.48" stroke garbage the 305 is stuck with.

BTW, the 318 Dakotas in the early 90's that had an auto were high-15's. Would also smoke an L03.

ehh.. If this is true. I think a 5 speed LO3 can be a good race then! I wouldnt say "smoke" a l03. Man you bash on all 3rd gen motors LOL. You hate TPI as well LOL

im not sure of the potential of the TBI 305 (dont own one), but this truck wouldnt "smoke" my LG4 car. bone stock in the summer, my 84' Z28 went 16 flat 3 times in a row running at 85mph. it probably wouldve dipped into the high 15s with better weather

people seem to use the term "smoked" to describe everything from winning by half an inch to buslenghts. "smoked" to me is around 3 or more car lenghts between the 2 racers

the lo3 has potential it just takes more work

the worst part about the motor's probely the heads combined the bad gearing (2.73,3.08) and a small cam just makes it kind of a dog but with a bigger cam better heads, exhaust, gears ect.... they can run low 14's sec to high 13's

of course it takes lots of tuning to get that setup running right though. That’s I’m probley going to switch to a carb when i do my build up. The lo3 wasn’t designed to be a performance motor but that doesn’t mean you can’t make it into one.

I am running 15.9s with a 305 TBI and 3.08 gears with an automatic in a 5,000 lbs brick.

I think you will win with the exception that some of the early 90's ones were in the 15's. I beat a newer 318 truck in my cavalier.
