Upset with CarCraft over comment (Article about cruising)
I figured this forum best places the scenario where this situation took place.
If you are a suscriber to the magazine (I will not be for long) check out page 78 on the bottom left.
For those of you not currently suscribed to the magazine there is a photo of a man in a white 3rd gen transam doing a burn out. (Like many other photos on the page)
The other photos of burnouts do not have anything negitive, but Car Craft felt the need to discriminate against 3rd gen owners with the comment "Is there a mu llet under that cap?" (had to space because it is a blocked word)
There is nothing to indicate the man in the photo has a ****** and what he is doing is not at all different from others on the page.
I take this very personal because these kinds of comments is what sterotypes third gen owners. Are they indicating they think we are low class white trash? I am hoping everyone will email Car Craft (carcraft@primedia.com) and tell them the community does NOT appricate the offensive comment aimed at thirdgen owners, and ask them to appoligize for their actions. We work just as hard (if not harder) than anyone that owns a '69 camaro or a '70 chevelle. This is a slap in the face and I will be cancelling my subscription if they do not retract their comment in the next issue.
I hope you all take this as serious as I am, I am learning and wrenching and treat my thirdgen as nice as any classic car owner.
Thank you,
Meatwad

I'm not derailing your topic. You're just over reacting about this. It's just a joke, that's what magazine writers of today thrive on. I can't believe that you would have posted this topic if you didn't want opinions, and my opinion is that you are over reacting.

As low class, long-haired white trash living in the hills, I resent your insinuation that I form some sort of negative image of thirdgen owners.

The reason why f-body owners receive such a badge is because we deserve it. Society has decades of examples to back it up as well. If you don’t think we are deserving of it, to some extent, then f-bodies in your area must be in tip top shape. In most areas nine out of ten f-bodies are worn out and are nothing more than a piece of scrap metal rolling down the road. They have little to no value and everyone has had one at some point. They are cheap and therefore happen to attract the liking of individuals who may not be the most educated or well mannered. I drive by at least five houses on my way to work that have junked f-bodies in their backyard. This isn’t a shocking anthropologic revelation here to see that people living in run down areas have an abundance of these cars. Stereotypes are given to all walks of life but it isn’t hard to put two and two together here. Magazine editors like to innocently poke fun of these cars because it is so easy to do so. I am sure you yourself have given some sort of stereotype to a faction that doesn’t accurately represent the entire population of that group. The F-body is the poor mans corvette. In addition to this, the hardest working people aren’t always the richest. That analogy doesn’t hold much weight in today’s world. I don’t work nearly as hard as some people and I make a lot more money.
I wouldn’t get too worked up over this. I love to listen to Pantera when driving my 3rd gen. Coincidence…..I think not.
This doesn’t have any street racing value so I will have to end it in compliance with the rules.

Luckily we're just exiting the cycle of rust to classic as the second gen did in the late 90s. Soon all that will be left are cars that were taken care of or were restored. Not soon enough considering the millions out there but soon.
