89 camaro vs 79 camaro

witch car do you think would win in a 1/4th mile race. a basicly stock lo3. some free mods or a 79 lg3 witch is also a 305. it has some modifications. it has an open element filter that goes up in to a special cowl induction hood. it has a hole cut in the orginal hood and goes under the cowl. it has a hi rise intake and i dont know of his is stock but has true duel exuast. not that big tho. pretty small piping. im not sure if the carb is stock but it looked kinda small to me. the a/c and emmisions are all taken out. just the bare needs under the hood.

with the dual exhaust and cold air intake if it's tuned right i would go with the 79 but it should be a close race. good luck!!

second gens are like 400 lbs. heaver than our cars, and a smog carbed 79 305 is nothing to brag about, even with all the emissions stuff gone. My money is on the L03.

The 79 305 has something like 145 hp and most likely has a 2.56 one wheel peeler.Adding a hirise intake to the stock motor probably slowed him down.I had a 80 camaro that had a functional air induction hood with a stock 350 an RPM manifold , headers with a 2.5 dual exhaust and a 2.56 rear gear. Its best run before I rebuilt the 350 was a 15.56.I think you should be able to take him.

Unless the '79 is a Z28, its going to have a VERY weak motor, weigh 3800lbs or more, have highway gears and a lazy automatic.

If it IS a Z28, then it could have the same 305, or a 350. A Z28 could also have a 4-speed, or a little bit better prepped auto. A Z28 also has either 3.42 (auto) or 3.73 (man) gears.

An '89 RS with the 305 shouldn't have a hard time cleaning up here, IMO.

Thats pretty cheap, If its not rusty and banged up then That is a good price. And its over 25 years old, so in most places its smog exempt. You can build the motor up any way you want, heck its a carbed Smallblock so its potential is vast. I am a fan of that body style.

Straight body no rust and runs? Id say go for it if you want a project. I personally am not much of a fan of late 70's fbodys. I do like the split grille early 70's style...

But if you clean it im sure it would be a beautiful car. Thats not a bad deal at all go for it.

My .02$ give it some major rake!
