In the beginning of this thread someone stated that catching a gn or a gnx at red light is rare, i got one for you....how about cathing a GNX at a redlight in a blizzard. Yeah that happened to me and my buddy driving around in his bravada in late january at about 10 at night.

Yeah he was having a great time going down the road sideways, i had to look 3 times to make sure i actually saw the GN emblem on the back of the car right. Thought i was hallucinating or something.

I love Grand Nationals, and hopefully one day I'll own one. Are you sure it was actually a GNX and not a regular GN? I can't recall ever seeing a GNX in person, but they are very rare and very cool cars.

I've managed to get even with another third-gen at a light, while driving my TTA (daily driver, sigh...), but neither them or I wanted to play. Suits me fine, though, I'd rather cruise then start trouble. Mustang owners, for the most part, want to start trouble, especially the newer Fox-body ones. The older ones are generally cooler about it - must be older guys driving them or something. One guy in a 87-88 GT rolled down his windows and we talked story for a bit at a long light, drove away civilized. Felt good for someone to recognize just what the heck a TTA was. Don't see too many GN's here, but my co-worker drives his beater '86 GN every day to work and back, despite the fact the trans is missing second gear...!

Actually heres a little story about a GNX i just remembered: About 15 years ago there was this kid that was apprenticing for my dad that had found a GNX for sale with 18 (yes 18 not 1800 or 18,000)miles on it, he sold it before even putting 1000 miles on it cause it scared him too much to drive it, so he bought an F-250. Ok stories over.

so maybe not better in the 80's but not really worse either. at least stock for stock
the N/A chances are would lose against a 305TPI unless the driver wasn't that good. most are in the high 15 to mid 16 range N/A though by some means a few have managed to pull mid to low 15's out of them fairly stock though most that do are GTUs which is the lightest of the bunch and also came with the 4.3 rear end

A Taurus sho would give a 305 a good run for its money, i used to have a 93 auto tranny
. It was pretty impressive for a sedan, at wot from a dig it would shift to second at 50 mph, she was a screamer. And i believe the 89 sho plus 5spd was the fastest one made.

i test drove a 89 SHO with 5 spd.
that thing was quick. my XXXXX-wife wouldn't go for gears so we didn't buy it.
i think it would give a stock 350 trouble. that is from expericence with my brothers gta back in late 80s.
later i bought a 93 with the auto. it was as quick as a mustang gt. (stock) with the mustang it would depend on if i spun the wheels or not. is not i would win by 1/2 car if i spun he won by the same amount.
guess i'm back in the 90s again.

Well i looked into it a little bit a stock 89 sho ran around 15.2 in the 1/4, couldn't find times for the sho plus but im sure its close. the 86 shelby glhs ran a 14.8 stock, and the 89 thunderbird sc 14.9. So there was some slight competition, but the tta ruled the streets it sounds like.
